Jimmy2 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I have reached out to some fellow cigar smokers here and other forums asking about them alot have said they have been bland and not on the money as of late.I was looking for the most present up to date release of this cigar as in general i have more faith in 06/07 and 08 boxes of CC's. I recently traded some of my cigars for a box with a local friend who just loves this cigar (has alot of boxes of this cigar but only has older boxes).I have been intrested for sometime with this cigar as i love this size as its my favorite. So i ended up with an aged box RSE JuL 02 and just fired on up with mid afternoon coffee in the back yard.Had a live concert of the Rolling Stones 1973 at Foret Nationale i would say one of there best shows alot of energy lets see if this cigar could match it. Wrapper: Med brown nice plume Smell : Just perfect floral aged tobacco Construction: Excellant perfect weight and cap Flavors i noted through out: Bready Salty Black licorice Sweet candy Powdered coco Vanilla bean grassy All these flavors came out from the first puff just amazing bouncing around my palette very pleasing. This was as complex as a cigar could get i must say i perfer a young cigar flavor profile but i can see in someways why some cigar smokers love a age cigar flavor profile.I hope i can locate a newer box (or single) date like an 07/early08 so i can compare with the age version. This cigar was med bolded just a perfect match with its complexity bravo.. I would say this is a true connoisseur cigar as it demands your attention (Just like Mick Taylor Fluid leads with this live concert) with all the wonderfull flavors it has to offer . Just Marvelous !!!!!!
Colt45 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 They sound great Jimmy. I've yet to try one, but will mark them down for some singles in the near future.

Jimmy2 Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Forgot to put my rating down .LOL solid 92 or 4 smoke rings....
PigFish Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 A while back I posted a thread about missing out on lesser know Habanos brands. This cigar is a favorite of mine. I am smoking through another box of '01's these days and they are nothing short of stellar cigars. You could roll a bunch of tasteless tobacco around them to fill a 50 ring, stuff them in a shiny new box and sell them for $20 bucks a stick and people would slobber all over themselves to smoke them!!! Hidden gems boys... I am glad that you discovered them.
Ginseng Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Have tried these sporadically in the past but they've never rung my bell. I suppose I have it in me to give it one more shot before I strike them off the list for good. Wilkey
Beagleone Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 These finally grew on me as a decent first cigar. I got a box from Navydoc last year and it took about the first third of the box before I got the right taste and smoke out of them. I just had to clip the cap and wait a day or so before lighting the stick up. Prior, I felt they were too tight and hard to draw on. Afterward, it was no problem and the taste and smoke were very good. I even had several people comment on how good and different the aroma that the RGCE had. I just picked up two more boxes and look forward to smoking them in my regular rotation.
asmith Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Promised Jimmy that I would review this cigar for him last night. I started about 2am NY Time and he lasted through the first third but when his Pug started farting in his office he had to call it a day. So here is the remainder of the review of the Rafael Gonzalez Corona Extra. Beautifully constructed cigar PTS MAR07, light brown wrapper with only a slight amount of oil in the leaf. Smelled of timber and pine notes, and the draw was clean and perfect with touches of cream. At the opening few draws heaps of raisins and toasted bread a fantastic opening. By the end of the first third the raisins had settled and the timber flavours were more pronounced. More cedar and breadyness ran through the middle of this cigar. On the palette there was soft cream notes that were very enjoyable. The burn was great and it remained with those notes through till the end where I felt an interesting change in the final third when hints of dried green apple appeared. An excellent way to end the cigar and wished that I had smoked this at morning tea giving the rest of the day a great feeling. 89/100 or 4/6 or 3/5 which ever scale you are happy using.
Ginseng Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 So you're saying this cigar rated 17 sheep from a flock of 21? Wilkey
