I hope someone can offer some advice here. I am interested in trying some habanos sancho panza but I am kind of skidish about shelling out the funds for something I may not like. I do however like Quintero's and was wondering how they might compare?

i've enjoyed the sancho panza big fellas but i think that they are discontinued - i'm not really famliar with much else from either brand but i suspect from reading many posts on the forum that if you like quintero's, you're going to love just about everything else.

My advice would be to spend the money to get the Sancho Panzas. I love the Belicosos and would compare it favorably to other campana/belicosos cigars; namely, Bolivar or Roman Allones. Certainly not as strong as either one, but nice consistent smoke with creamy textures and a peppery finish. I also recommend, if you can find them, the Sancho Sancho which is a titanic smoke (Gran Corona 47 X 235mm). I have 10 of the 1999 which I will start to smoke this year.

Sancho Panza have a class that current Quintero do not posess. SP Belicos has poise and class, Molinos is suave and sweet, Non Plus remind me of smoking a mix of driftwood and cream.

Quintero are solid earthy cigars. I enjoy the Brevas when very good batches come through. However the quality of tobacco doesn't compare

Hi Trevor,

As a further explaniation, all Quintero cigars are short filler construction (the filler is chopped tobacco rather than whole leaf). Short Filler's are normally considered lesser cigars, but they do tend to be more affordable.

An extract from my website:

All Habanos cigars are now handmade (Totalmente a Mano). They are predominantly long filler (Tripa Larga).

Some short filler (Tripa Corta) brands and cigars remain.

Three brands (Jose L Piedra, La Flor de Cano, and Quintero) comprise only short filler cigars.

Three brands (Por Larranaga, Rafael Gonzalez, and Fonseca) each contain a single short filler cigar.

Never cared for the Sancho Panza marca, but enjoyed a box of 02 Quintera Brevas. Earthy flavor & MUCH stronger than any SP. It is a bit annoying though when that short filler gets in your teeth!

I have not tried the Sanchos, but have a box of Quintero Panetelas (2000),

taste wise are a bit earthy and harsher than the many other brands of cc's I have.

Construction is not something to write home about (they look like a caterpiller wrapper himself up in an oak leaf)

and I save them for friends who hate cigars, or when I'm waterskiing and dont mind losing a smoke.

All in all, they are not the worst smoke I have ever had, I do smoke them, when I have to.

While I rate Quintero AHEAD of Los Stados !!!!! - I consider Sancho Panza to be a better cigar than the Quintero marque.

But that's just another of the great thing about this thing of ours - the only 'correct' answer is what is true for you!!!
