DocRKS Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 After 80 years of making lighters that occasionally worked (at least the ones I and several folks I know had purchased) - the Colibri head honcho sent an email saying Thanks for the memories.... and announced the US Ops were being put into receivership......(a form of bankruptcy protection) Not sure if this action is limited to Colibri USA or applies to the worldwide operation? Also, there was no mention in the press release how this impacts on ST Dupont - who was using the Colibri shop to service their lighter repairs/updates etc... Even though I really had the most awful luck with the Colibri lighters - I admit to being disapointed in hearing this latest economic bad news - as it hits closer to home for our cigar smoking passion....

I have one of their lighters which has performed well. I do not use it on a regular basis and it will clog more easily than my lotus or porsche which perform perfectly.
Wiley Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 These are so frustrating I have gone back to matches...
josie67 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 These are so frustrating I have gone back to matches... Couldn't agree more... the one that I had and the one my dad had were piles of #$%^
sounddust Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I have a couple that work fine although the flames do not fire as long in one shot than my Duponts. I won't mind getting a few at a clearance of some sort.
bolivr Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I got a $5 no-name blue flame , made in china, never missed a beat over the past 5 years....Sure it doesn't 'look' as nice as a colibri.
