PDC1 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Some of you may be aware of the current heat wave here in Melbourne, where we've had three days in excess of 43° C in succession. Peaking at 45.1° yesterday. I don't want to disturb anyone with this image of some of the damage from the heat so, best to turn away if you are at all squeamish....
Ken Gargett Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Some of you may be aware of the current heat wave here in Melbourne, where we've had three days in excess of 43° C in succession. Peaking at 45.1° yesterday.] having just spent a few days down there for the tennis, i know exactly how it feels. bloody hot! 43 degrees after 6 pm at night. that is about 110! in F, for those not using centigrade. the only thing i would say is that, as hot as it was, i would prefer that to 10 degrees cooler but with our humidity. hate that. much prefer the dry heat. i remember back in the 80's when one could still travel northwest pakistan and along the afghan border etc, i was in a truck. we had ten days in a row over 48 C and the final day was 51C! we had reached lahore by then and i remember just walking all over the city in that heat. people were fantastic. i remember down some back alley in the slums, a bunch of metal workers insisted i share their water - it had obviously been scooped out of a nearby gutter - was muddy brown - but they were so generous i could not refuse (think i had been travelling long enough by then that the gut was close to cast iron - had done the dysentry etc months earlier). i reckon i was well in my third gallon of liquid by lunch and was still to take the day's first leak. i'm almost sweating thinking about it.
Wiley Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 that's damned hot ! and cool photo! sent it on to the wife and kids
jwm8592 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Well if you'd rather have -17 F, book a trip to the eastern US.
Habanos2000 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 i remember back in the 80's when one could still travel northwest pakistan and along the afghan border etc, Ken, I hope you don't mind me asking, but what the hell were you doing in this part of the world?

DocRKS Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 He did tell us - he was going to 'la hore'...... I guess spelling varies in different parts of the world - but the message is clear..... Like the song states..... Just Lookin for love in all the wrong places....... PS - in the words of the great Don Rickles....we kid because we love.....
bolivr Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I had to use freezer bricks in the humi and managed to keep the temp to 75F. I think that is ok. From what I have seen elsewhere on the forum a higher temp can hatch beetles but I have never seen any, touch wood. Using the bricks introduced the new problem of condensation so the rH went up and down... I think all is well now and no smokes were ruined
