sharks Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi all, Hopefully you can give me some advice on my humidor? I have recently bought my humidor, just a small one to start off with. Siglo brand.. I do have a few questions and hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. My current huimmidity is sitting at 65% and temp around 18c. I just set it up yesterday morning so I am thinking it may still need to settle down abit. I gave it a clean and followed the instructions etc but was hopeing it would be sitting around the 70% hummidity by now. I am trying not to open the box to many times to see the guages as I know I am effecting whats going on inside. Should this be normal or is the Hummidity and temp ok for my cigars. Just want to make sure its ok before I start putting them in. Its out of sunlight and in sitting in a glass cabinet atm. Still no cigars are in it atm. Thought about getting one of these http://www.winesafe.com.au/WirelessHygrotherm.htm so I dont have to open the box all the time to check the guages. Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Just would like to know I am doing everything right. Thanks Sharks
Ken Gargett Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 65 to 70% seems good. 65% probably preferable. lots of posts on this if you check back.
habanablue Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hey Sharks welcome to FOH! What Ken said and I would suggest you ' Get the Puck' I put a mate of mine on to them the other day and they work a treat. Rob stocks 'em and the board will vouch that the product's owner N2adventure (Mark) has created a great humidity control device.
smokem Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Before one even starts to read and worry about %RH, make sure you calibrate your hygrometer. Don't know if your humidor comes with a digital, but if not, I would recommend getting one.
Colt45 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Sharks, I have to agree that 65% is preferable to higher. As has been mentioned, be sure of hygrometer calibration, and do not fear a "lower" humidity - you'll be better off for it - 70% is fairly damp. Personally, I'm happy with 62 to 67%, over the course of the seasons.
sharks Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks guys for all the info. Yep got a digital hygrometer. Just wanted to know from you guys I was on the right track. Thanks again Sharks
