HI All,

Well this was my first cigar of the year - a Cohiba Siglo VI tubo 2007, from a three pack (as well as my first bottle of bubbles!).

Setting: Saturday evening in the man room with my fiancee. We had a bottle of 2004 Clover Hill, which is my favorite Australian Sparkling. Beautiful crisp bubbles, yeast and brioche on the nose and a rich palate of complex honey; delicious! I love Clover!!!!

OK, I know I got carried away; I'm supposed to be talking about the cigar.

Construction: beautiful brown wrapper; not much oil, good construction (which is reassuring as the last one of these was disappointingly plugged!).

Smell at cold: clean tobacco, mild tea, maybe even some caramel?

Draw: good! slightly on the loose side (but not plugged! What a relief!). Simple tobacco.

Opening: creamy smoke, mild to medium body, typical cohiba grassiness and cream.

First 1/3: beautiful draw, very herby more so than grassy, maybe sage? Lots of creamy smoke. Very tasty.

Second 1/3: really tasty creamyness enjoyable sage flavours and grass undertones.

Last 1/3: creamy cashews and becoming fuller bodied, with white peppers towards the end.

Overall: great even burn, an aroma of roasted nuts according to my fiancee. Thoroughly enjoyable and completely satisfying. To be honest I was very disappointed by my first experience with this legend. I couldn't even smoke it; but this one really made up for it and I'm now considering buying a box as that was my last one.

Cheers,

George

Ah, the Sig VI. Have to say one of my favorites. Have not had but 2, and loved them greatly. Will have to get my hands on a box.

Excellent review.

Regrettably I have no experience with Australian sparkling wines - but that situation will be dealt with at the next trip to the Wine purveyor....

The Siglo VI has always been a personal favourite and a cigar that has yet to let me down from the Original release boxes through recent 2008 production. Great way to start off a New Year.

These are amazing cigars. I recently toasted a 2007 and it was everything I could hope for. Perfect construction, rich, creamy flavor, slightly sweet, clean and pure, and immensely poised. Just a great experience from light up to nub.

Very nice review and good photos too! I had a Siglo VI Tubos this morning and my experience with it rivals yours. A very good smoke indeed and I trust they will develop further into honeyed heaven! :cigar:

clover seems to have disappeared from the radar here. i asked about that pre chrissie and been assured it will be back in form this year.

mollydooker would be a sparky marquis wine made solely for the states, i suspect. don't know the hill of content (have a feeling that they had a run-in with henschke re hill of grace). rumball have a range of sprakling reds so tough to know which though all are usually quite good. greg norman wines were once pretty much wolf blass stuff re-badged but i believe that these days, completely separate blends and that norman involves himself with chris hatcher and the team in the making. we no longer see them.

black chook seems very cheap - actually they all do but then we have the most inequitious taxation of wine of any producing nation in the world.

i am a huge fan of anything the guys at majella do and i love their spurgles (aussie name for sparkling reds). i'd definitely give that a crack but i am fascinated that you have so many sparkling reds (usually a very aussie only thing) and so few 'normal' sparklers. i suspect the latter because you have so many of your own.

i really do believe that tasmania is the place in the world, second only to champagne itself, for truly great sparkling wine.
