Actually it's been clash of prominentes. Yesterday together with my friend of Neapolis cigar club we decided to smoke two EL from the year 2000. He smoked a Montecristo DC and I smoked the Romeo y Julieta.

Beside the robusto and the cazadores, I am not fancy with this brand but the yesterday smoke is surely the best R&J cigar smoked up to date even if the foot of the cigar was not perfect as the Montecristo.

Both cigars where very nice in looking, a nice maduro wrapper, very tiny veins but still greasy even after 8 years, full of nice flavours as leather and coffee. Smoked very well for almost 2 hours, in the first thirds sweet spices turning into leather that I could feel on my lips. Never got really strong for all the two hours, enjoyed drinking a 23 years Zacapa. Draw was also perfect and also my friend had only good words for his MDC.

Both of us had a really happy face when my wife turned in asking what we where smoking as there was a nice smell in the house.

Nice review.

While I am not a fan of the EL's, the Montecristo DC was by far one of the very best IMHO. It did take several years for them to develop, but as far as EL's are concerned, only the Montecristo marca tasted a thing like the marca profile. Most were typical of the EL wrapper which lent a burnt charred flavor to every other EL ever produced (again just my humble opinion).

Only a few RyJ have ever done anything for me, most have been too subtle and bland for my palate. It is a great thing that HSA makes so many different cigars, so that everyone can have something to enjoy!

Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Awesome!

I have about a dozen Monte Double Coronas left and you have just inspired me to go and get one out to drybox and have on Christmas Eve.

Salute!

I thought I was the only person who bought the Montecristo DC EL. As much as people

talk about them, it is easy to get that impression. Sadly i am down to about 6 of these,

they were so awful initially that I was doing myself a favor by giving them away. but

I would agree that these are among perhaps the top 3 ELs of all time so far. Talk about

mind-twisting complexity! Everytime I enjoy one it is a reminder of the fact that my palate

is woefully inadequate to describe a really good havana cigar. They don't make em no more

sure applies here.
