When doing a serious tasting it makes sense to have a clean palate.

Curious what cleansing rituals are practiced to assure an honest tasting.

Especially wondering what Ken’s input will be as he is well respected for his palate.

Also are you cautious what pairings are used?

Thanks

I don't think about it too much, but if I'm attempting a "real" tasting, I like to make sure I haven't brushed my

teeth or eaten strong or coating foods for a time before. If I were drinking anything during, it would be just

water.

Plus not smoking at least 24 hours prior to teh "real tasting"

Lemon sorbet is the best palate cleanser I know of.

Don't have a ritual but like most here I try not to eat or drink anything too strong before. To me bread helps clean up moth from other flavours, drink a bit of water and off we go!

som epeople swear by apples (but never cheese). others use biscuits. i must admit water suits me.

that said, i have seen so many tastings conducted post a lunch or after someone has ducked out for a bunger or a strong coffee that i wonder. i do find cheese a big no. coats the palate and kills evidence of many faults (hene why many wineries put out cheese for you to nibble on when buying).

worth ading that not so long ago, almost all serious wine judges smoked (not evans o halliday as far as i know, but most of the rest). some even claimed that when they tried to stop, it stuffed their tasting. i think it depends on what your palate has calibrated itself to accept.

Some interesting answers - I like cigargirls Lemon sorbet but may have problems with Mr. Japan 24 hrs..... :)

Seriously I appreciate the feedback and see I am not too far off base already.

Ken - I had completely forgot about apples, If I start practicing that, then it enforces the health aspect of smoking KUDOs :daydream::thumbsup:

Not that I have ever tried it for a serious tasting but recently in Hong Kong at the Red Chamber Cigar Divan I had tea with my cigar and found that it really cleansed my palate between puffs and allowed me to fully savour the cigar.

What kind of tea did you have?
