hmm ok

Diplomaticos #4 (5" x 42) from an '05 box.

I smoked this the other week after getting the crap kicked out of me by a 3 hour maths exam. Pre-light was a fairly strong yet refined tobacco aroma. It was so boxed pressed it almost looked like a rectangle with slightly smoothed out edges. The draw was a bit on the loose side, so I smoked it at an even slower pace than usual. It didn't seem to be a problem until I reached the last 1/3 when the smoke started getting a little hot.

Right from the word go, I got a pleasant mixture of nuts (if I were pressed, I would say almond, it had a rather smooth and sweet quality to it), coffee, and cream (in a decreasing order of intensity). These three flavours remained constant throughout, though tended to be lost in the last 1/3 due to the loose draw. Judging by the quality of the flavours at this young age, I'd be willing to be this cigar would be a cracker with a few years on it.

I've had a really hectic last two months, and so I've only managed to fit in 3 or 4 cigars. I would get really excited when I knew I could fit a cigar in, but through pure bad luck all the previous ones were sick, making me wonder why I bothered spending the money on this habit, but this Diplo turned that all around. Smoking it after a string of bad cigars made it all the sweeter, and it made my week.

Taste: 61/65

Draw: 15/20

Construction: 8/10

Wrapper: 4/5

Total - 88/100

Will have to count Friday night as weekend.

Pulled out a Monte Edmundo (Sep. '04), which has been sitting since december when I was in Havana.

The flavour is still quite mild & smooth, but it did appear to have lost some of the 'greeness" of the cigar I pulled out in January. It certainly is not a powerful cigar, but the middle 3rd did give a bit more flavour & strength than previous edmundos I've had (vanilla with vague hint of spice & earth  )

Hopefully a bit more time will keep adding flavours to it. Burn was excellent & even throughout. Got a bit hot towards the end though, & draw was a touch tight, but was to nice to have the time & great weather on a Friday night to relax on the terrace & enjoy a stogie this size.

Great way to start the weekend & finish off a nice dinner with some friends (accopampanied by 15 yr old El Dorado rum)

85/100 (look forward to seeing if this improves over time)

Cigar: Bolivar Churchill A/T

Year: 2000/Dont know box code as I bought these as singles

Cigar: Trinidad Reyes

Year: IKR ABR '05

Setting: On the rooftop bar at the San Sebastian Winery

Well, last night proved to be a cracker of an evening. My brother was in town after getting smashed by hurricane Wilma in Ft. Lauderdale, so it was time to party. Me and the wifey, my brother and some 8 other friends went to the San Sebastian Winery in downtown St Augustine. Just a great place to chill. 60 ft up the elevator and we were atop the building and at the open air bar. Views of historic St Aug. were aplenty...but that is not what we came for. Pulled 2 tables together and commenced the drinking. 4 pitchers Sangria, a coupla bottles of red - and the Guinness was flowing. We ordered some Italian meat and cheese and bread trays. Good thing as I was building a pergola over my patio all day and somehow forgot lunch amid drinking beer and building. After eating I pulled out the lovely Bolivar. Flawless construction. Easy draw. The wrapper was a light tan with a very nice coating of oils. Smelled superb. I had my damn Prometheus lighter, but the wind was kinda kickin' so I oberserved my situation. Just then the staff started rolling out nice propane heaters by each table. Screw the Prometheus. Lit the Bolivar on the flames from the heater. By this time I had quite the buzz. Now I wont go into the different flavors with big descriptions because to be honest we were having a great laugh, the band was playing, and I was less than sober. As good as the cigar was, now was not the time to sit and ponder. After about and hour and a half I finished the Churchill. Wonderful. Just as I threw the nub over the railing and down upon tourists the band was playing a good song. 4 or 5 women were dancing together and my wife and everyone else were trying to get me to go dance with the women. Had a couple more drinks and then the wife says "If you go out there and break it down w/ them, I'll buy you a box of cigars". I was gone. Jumped in the middle of them, shaking my ass I threw off my jacket and they went wild. 2 of them sandwiched me and it felt like I was remaking Dirty Dancing. Just then my bro-in-law jumped in (drunker than I was) and it was almost X-rated. Patrons were going wild w/ laughter. Song ended and we went back to our tables. My wife said "Im buying you a box of cigars and a new car!" Obviously she was quite hot after seeing me bust my moves. More drinks, more music and even more laughter. At one point my bro said something to me and I punched him in the jaw. He cracked me back with a left. Dazed, we just laughed it off. Pulled out the Trini. Ive done a review on it before and this one was no different other than this night was extra fun adding to the enjoyment. Dont really remember much after this point. I do remember being dragged out of there by the wife after me and my bro and bro-in-law were getting too friendly with the dancing women. Wife drove home. She cooked me a pizza, ate it in bed and fell asleep with the dish still on my belly. Spectacular night.

Long weekend already and it was only Saturday night. I settled in with some good friends at Pokers house. I had a few cigars and was about ready to call it a night when Cigarflip hands me a '98 Cohiba Corona Especiales: Dimensions, Length (in inches): 6, Ring Gauge: 38

We had both got a box and I did not bring any of mine. He hands it to me and ooo my gosh. I don't ever taste wood cocconut, vanilia cherry extrac..etc, etc .but this was GOOD, NO GREAT solid tabacco. tons of dark smoke billowing out with each puff. I took it down until I was burning my fingers and then some more. Wonderful finish I drove home with a big smile on my face still tasteing it....Nice way to end Daylight savings time :-P

Cohiba Lanceros 3/02

This elegant stick had a milk chocolate brown slightly oily wrapper. It was consistantly firm to touch with nary a vein to be found. Clipped with Xiker, and prelight draw was perfect with a rich tobacco taste. Toasting and lighting with my gas station special triple torch gave an even light. The first draw was a succulent creamy taste that continued throughout 1.5 hours of pleasure. This is a very special cigar, the third that I have smoked from this box without disapointment.

Cohiba Lancero OCT 01

Perhaps my favourite cigar of all. Enjoyed Sunday afternoon with a Cointreau and Ice after a BBQ with the extended family.

Smooth dark honey colour with no veins to speak of. Clipped the pigs tail toreveal a verg good draw. Opened with strong smooth tobacco flavours and settled down quickly to Cohiba honey cream and coffee.

It never strayed from that Flavour profile.

Rob, I'm gonna have to drive up and visit the patio again soon!

Had some nice cigars on another patio down here in San Diego. Didn't really pay much attention them, just enjoyed the smokes, some great homemade chili, friends and football.

Started with an 01 RA 898, nice toasty tobacco with tones of nuts, cedar and cocoa. Second one from the box, and they are much better now that they have sat in the cooler for a couple months.

Finished with a Sancho Panza Belicosos from 2002, my first. Not a very complex cigar, pretty straight forward Cuban tobacco flavor with some cedar. Of course, after the chili, my taste buds might have been a little off! A simple and quite satisfying cigar.

Sat out on the porch Sunday afternoon with an '02 Partagas Corona Cabinet and a soda. What a delicious smoke! Strong and spicy right out of the gate, slowly smoothing out to reveal classic Partagas flavors of old wood, earth, tanned leather and spice. A mellow sweetness on the finish. By the time it hit stride in mid-length it was better than the recent PSD4's in terms of complexity and depth. The last third rose in intensity, with more spice and peppers. A classic! 91

El Rey del Mundo - Choix Supreme

Excellent draw and burn with a full cuban aroma, A mild, flavour packed cigar lovely. This one had aged about three years and was spot on. Not a complex cigar but did'nt need to be. It capped off a great day and went well with a full glass of Grand Marnier.

Saturday was a rough day for me, in terms of cigars. I started with an '01 SS2, which was absolutely flat, so I gave up after I'd smoked about an inch of it. So I grabbed an '01 Mag 46 to replace it. It wasn't much better, but I smoked most of it anyway. Was it the cigars . . . or my palate? :-(

Fortunately, Sunday was much better. I smoked and enjoyed an '01 Cohiba Exquisito in the morning and a Tang Upmann No. 2 in the afternoon, while my wife and I carved pumpkins.

I just wrote a long review on the 2 boxes that Lisa sent last week, JL PC and Choix Supreme, but somehow lost it since I took too long. When I went to post it, the board wanted me to log in again and did not save the post. Oh well. Here is the short of it.

JL PC was extremely good and I scored it a 92 (box from 03). Choix supreme had great construction but exhibited its youth (05 box) and scored an 87 with me.

Last weekend I met up with a good friend of mine in Baltimore and enjoyed some outstanding cigars.

1. RyJ Ex #4 from 01 cab

Hermoso #4

48 x 127

I was gifted this cigar back in April and decided to fire it up. Solid taste of tobacco and wood....the finish was long and full of flavor...very complex. Lovely cigar at 5 years of age. A solid example of good RyJ flavors. These, the coronas and chruchills are my favorites RyJ.

2. Upmann Tang Monarchas

Julieta

47 x 178mm

This was my first experience with the Tang blended Upmann and it was very enjoyable. Clean and smooth...lighter in body than the RyJ. Sweet tobacco and vanilla cream on the finish....the flavor was best enjoyed when releasing the last bit of smoke through the nose.

Had a RASCC that was off the freakin' hook delicious last night. The flavors were almost overwhelming. A new favorite that I can see replacing the Partagas Shorts that have been burning rather poorly for me.

Saturday night around the campfire at the cabin was SEGAR TIME. I started the session with a Cohiba Esplendido 05, and progressed to a Part. SD1 EL. Both were very nice but di not win the prize.

The third cigar was a LGC Med. de Oro #1 (00) and proved to be the jewel of the night. Lovely elegant cigar that lit effortlessly and showed an amazing spectrum of flavors. It did require relighting sveral times but that could be due to the slow way I enjoyed the cigar. Sometimes the most pleasant suprise comes from the most unlikely place.

Glad to hear, as I scooped up a box from our favorite retailer. Looks like it was the last one though.... Can't wait to try them out :hungry:

I love the LGC Medaille D'or No 1. So many people do not try this vitola because of it's thin guage..........they will never know what they are missing.
