demiurgic Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 1. Obama (hand picked already) 2. Dow Jones - 11,000 points
deltatango Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Only thing I like gambling on more than the market is politics. Prez: Obama. Edwin Edwards once said "The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy." That's where Obama is at. Dow: 10750 - less volatility, no more 400 point days (with the exception of maybe Monday), tight credit markets, and everyone gears up for the long recession dance.
lepatrik Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 McCain 10123 » ........or is there an abyss below us » » Aussie market opens in 45 minutes. » » Picked up Ken at 6:20 am this morning (he is borrowing our FOH beach 4X4) » and it was all I could do to stop him jumping out » » On this thread pick two things. No commentary required. » » 1. Who will win the US Presidency November 4th » 2. The finishing Dow on Friday 31st of October. » » Your picks need to be in by Friday the 10th of October. » » To the winner a Pack of Partagas P2 Tubos. You must have picked » the Presidency. Then closest to the finishing Dow on that nominated date. » » ***Note: If two people post the same winning selections....the prize » goes to the first poster ***
J-ROD Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hopefully McCain 9378 I think guessing the market for the day(s) after the election would be even scarier.
crazypoet Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 » Obama » » 10500 Based on the last few days, my guess was wildly optimistic! :-D
Miami101 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I had to put my input....I just lost over $30,000.........thanks Bush! Four more years of this! Yea that is what I want..........we good old boys! New flash we are not going to have a country if it keeps going this way....
greenpimp Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 My Mom just called today to tell me that she and my Dad have lost 1/3 of their retirement in the past year. She just retired, and my Dad is retiring this year. They were going to move out here to be with their grandkids. Now that looks pretty doubtful.
El Presidente Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 My family who have retired are in the same boat. 30-50% loss of wealth. Still, the stock maket is not a bank. The market appears to still be finding a floor. There may be a rally but it will be a dead cat bounce. Assets are being revalued globally and once a floor (stable trading range) is found we could be trading within that range for 2 years. My guess that range is 9700 - 11,300. Obama 10654
asmith Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 » My guess that range is 9700 - 11,300. » » Obama » » 10654 Ayala you are dreaming if you think that the Dow is going to get over 10,000 again this year. So here is my call. 8787 Palin
yossie Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 8500 Obama. By the way, Only our currency increases...
deltatango Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 » Dow: 10750 - less volatility, no more 400 point days (with the exception » of maybe Monday) I guess I can go ahead and eat the 'less volatility' prediction ... heh.

You can smell a rally in the air....just before reporting reality and swathes of red ink drive everything lower again throughout 09. I am an optimist. This purging bings pain but for those of us in business it provides a reality check and an opportunity to refocus, restructure and come out the other end stronger.

Hopefully not too much pain for the cigar business. I thought booze, smokes, and gambling were the up markets during a recession. I like the optimistic point of view though. I keep repeating something similar every time I have to talk one of my coworkers off the (2nd story) ledge. Plus I tell them the grass isn't as soft as it looks from that angle.
asc Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Just the markets correcting...right. 97% of 5 year periods have made money... 100% of 10 year periods have made money.... Now's the time to gobble up the bargains a la Buffet style. (ba-rum-pum)
anacostiakat Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Ouch! 8500 range today... I say it could bottom at 7500 Obama :-(
