dentonparrots Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Anyone know anything about these? I was on the verge of lighting one up and found out they were vintage/ aged, so thought I'd enquire if any folks knew anything about them. I've not had a PL yet either but there's some nice limited edition ones in my local store for £19 each! Since my last posting on here the PDS4's and the RASS's have been nice to me, but still the RyJ PC's are top of my list. Thanks for any help peeps. Carl.
Colt45 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have no personal experience with them, but as usual, my first stop would be Trevor's site: http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.asp...#Petit_Lanceros

The same lack of good "google-info" led me to post my first ever thread on here bout cigars about the Don Candido 501's.
KB24 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Trevor will probably appreciate a picture for his page since it didn't appear he has one of the petite lancero.
Jay Hemingway Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 not to familiar with them carl, but i would love to have an emtpy tubo to add to my havana tubo collection. send me an e-mail if you could help me out. thanks.;-)
Ryan Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Don't smoke them yet, keep them safe, tubes too. You've possibly just posted the only known pictures of these. Where did you get them?
Jimmy2 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 100% Fake i would think at least the A/T... But lets see what others have to say hope they are real would be a nice rare find.. I see cork in under the cap which i see on alot of fake R&J Churchill A/T.. I did have real R&J pre Castro tubes (1950's) in my hand but never checked if there was cork under cap. But the old pre Castro R&J A/T had a White/Yellow plastic strip wrapped around the screw cap so it could not be opened as i think alot of the tubes back than used. Also most Pre Castro tubes were a flat silver with some wording in color.
Jay Hemingway Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 i just read in the MRN .... Petite Lanceros hand made, discontinued in the 1980's. no pic of cigar anywhere. only came in Semi Plain Boxes of 25 (without cellophane). NO tubos mentioned. as a matter of fact it looks as if none of the Por Larranaga line ever came in an A/T format. that tubo pictured doesn't look like it was made 20+ years ago. looks pretty newly made. IMO oh well, i thought the tubo looks cool.

If the Petit Lanceros were discontinued they must have been made available in tubo's, as that's what's printed on the side of the tube. It's from the same collection as the 501's and they were also in rare packaging. Thanks for all your help so far folks.

Carl. The tubes themselves may be authentic, but the cigar looks to be nothing more than a contemporary Petit Coronas. I've seen an intact package of (probable) pre-revolution Por Larrañaga Lanceros tubos and the cigar looks quite different. The band also looks nothing at all like the ones on the specimens I saw. You might have been sold a bunch of tubes with a couple of $5 PCs in them. I hope you got a reasonable price. In any case, if your provenance isn't solid, you might as well light one up. Wilkey
Jimmy2 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 All pre Castro A/T were all silver and had some words or letters with color. I have held plenty of A/T from that era and if those PL A/T pictured are from that time they are not from that time. Trevors pic's are spot on and thats the style they used for many years even when Castro was in charge. Also the cigars in width look much much smaller than the A/T's width. Ask me they look like PL Panatelas in a PC tube. Sorry... I am sure if real most here would know as we have some serious collectors of rare and vintage cigars as members. If real A/T's maybe some store just made up some to repackage Por Larrañaga Panatelas during the 1980's ?
Jay Hemingway Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 cool trevor! i would love to see one of those PL tubos in person. thanks.
Miami101 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Wow These look real nice............Wow thanks for the photo..
Trevor2118 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 » NO tubos mentioned. » » as a matter of fact it looks as if none of the Por Larranaga line ever came in an A/T format. There was an Imperiales - Aluminium Tube shown in the 1962 Cubatabaco Catalogue. They were presumably discontinued soon after and never got into MRN's book.
