Ken Gargett Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 a quick query for travellers - has anyone flown qantas in the last year and not had a) endless delays? these are normally attributed to late arrival of the incoming aircraft - though that can often be exposed as a lie when the real reason emerges, like the plane is too badly broken to baindaid together - and why the hell they think this is valid excuse is beyond me. do they think that we'll assume the incoming plane is being flown by emirates or someone else? had their flight cancelled - and just how many reasons can they find for this? c) got on the plane to find that the seat you requested (and bugger the fact that you might be a platinum member with 'not next to the f'ing window' tattooed across your profile) is actually not even within sight? d) the oxygen tanks playing russian roulette (actually, just because there have been daily maintenence scares doesn't mean there is a problem and to be honest, competent pilots are the only reason - that and a complete lack of competition - are the only reason i still fly with the stumbling wombat). still, the poor customer service manager who was fool enough to give me her direct line and i are having our weekly 'why are you so hopeless' and 'if the dirt poor cubans can run a punctual, competent friendly airline, why the hell can't you' chat. always a fun way to spend thursday.
Guest Warren Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Ken have you ever thought of taking a nice relaxing cruise.:-D
Guest rob Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 My family and I went to Italy with Qantas last year. 2 cancelled domestic flights to Sydney meant we missed our International flight out. We waited in Sydney for 10 hours and they refused to provide us lunch or dinner. No seat upgrades. I spoke to the shift manager and they still bluntly refused. They then sent us to Melbourne (12 hours later) to catch the last flight out of Australia... we only got to Melbourne with 25 mins to spare. Got to Europe. ... lost bags. Missed internal flights because of the earlier debacle. Returned to Australia 3 weeks later... all three of us had our luggage 'misplaced'. Mine took 3 weeks to show up... and another bag was returned with items missing from the inside.
El Presidente Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Having had more flights this year than most I agree that the once great Qantas is a mere shadow of its once great self. Still, there has been a dumbing down of airlines around the world. Excluding Singapore, Cathay, Emirates ....I would still catch Qantas before others.

The shame!) but it does seem to be the case the world over with the traditional 'National Carriers' (British Airwys, Air France, Aer Lingus etc); I travelled to Cuba via Air France the last 2 x times and while it wasn't anywhere near as bad as some of the stories here it wasn't great: Crap legspace, antiquated in-flight entertainment systems, grumpy lying ground staff, delays, rank wine... Next time to Cuba I fly with Virgin! I may be planning a trip to see a friend in Sydney next year, if not Qantas, then whom should I fly with?
gpg Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 » a quick query for travellers - has anyone flown qantas in the last year and » not had ... I had an hour plus wait at the baggage claim in Sydney and then the upgrade to business class that was 'revoked' 10 minutes after I was seated on the way home when they realized they gave it to the wrong person. My expectations are pretty low for all airlines these days though.

The plane (?) looks a little shook, but the pilot looks like he knows what he's about: I like the cut of his jib!
