Spartan Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Just received a invite to a little get together/BBQ at the end of the month and about 5 of people attending are cigar smokers. I would like to bring something nice to hand out but without breaking the bank. :-D
Tampa1257 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Inexpensive is a realitive term.............. May I suggest Partagas Serie D No. 4's, the 07's and from what I hear the 08's are smoking great right now. Just can't go wrong with an PSD4 IMHO Now you could also get a box of Partagas Serie du Connaisseur No.3's as a back up!

I want to share the habanos love but there's going to be a problem if someone tosses a $9 smoke before its done! :-D I'd like to keep it down to 5 bucks (or less) a stick (if possible) :-P
Taino Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 We gave a big party a few days ago for my brother's birthday, we wanted to give cigars for everybody and we went for JL Piedras cremas and Por Larrañaga panetelas. Both medium bodied cigars at a very reasonable price, that I think an occasional cigar smoker can enjoy.
Colt45 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I agree with Tampa in principle, and I think Taino has made a good suggestion. I might add the Bolivar PC or No.2 Tubos, though these go a little over your price point. It can also depend on the sizes you might be interested in. Going off the board, have you considered going with NCs, perhaps something you already have on hand? In this way, you'd also avoid any unwanted discussions with people you might not know.

bassman Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 RASCC is a great little smoke that can be found for less than $100 for a box of 25.
Tampa1257 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Sorry, I thought that I read that you would be having cigar smokers there. In that case Taino made a good recommendation, and I would also suggest Montecristo No.5's, less expensive, a brand name people will recognize even if they are not cigar smokers and if someone tosses one, it will not break your heart or your wallet.
Jimmy2 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Romeo y Julieta Coronitas en Cedro Romeo y Julieta Romeo No.2 T.A Ramon Allones Small Club Corona Por Larrañaga Montecarlos H. Upmann Regalias H. Upmann Coronas Major (T.A.)
asc Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 If only 5 of the people who will be there are cigar smokers...buy a box of something you'll like, as you'll wind up with 80% to keep and cherish after the picnic. That should make the price a bit easier to handle when thinking about the purchase.

If you're looking for a recommendation there, I've had good luck with Oliva Serie V recently. They're a little one-dimensional, but it's a tasty dimension, in my opinion. and they're in the $5 - $7 range. FWIW, YMMV. Charles
aavkk Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 » Romeo y Julieta Coronitas en Cedro » Romeo y Julieta Romeo No.2 T.A » Ramon Allones Small Club Corona » Por Larrañaga Montecarlos » H. Upmann Regalias » H. Upmann Coronas Major (T.A.) I second the R&J Coronitas en Cedro, a great PC smoke for the money and good out of the box. The early 07 PL Montecarlos are outstanding right now and also very cheap. Some ppl might be turned off to the panatela size however. You better hurry though if you want your cigars to be smokable because you should let them sit 30 days before smoking them.
Mel Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hand your mates a Sig II each and tell them only a **** piece of **** would toss a Cohiba before it was done.:-D I hate to hand out cheap cigars and will give good friends good cigars. If the buddies are not that close I may give nothing or the NC thing is ok but I know that I am giving cull cigars. Hell it's only money and they are good mates I assume that is why you invited them to the BBQ.

No mate good enough to share a BBQ at my house....throws out a cigar that I give them. If they are weak arse mates who would pitch a half smoked cigar or ask for "coffee" during the afternoon.....Taino is right: Por Larranaga Panetela and Montecarlo. Buy some umbrella's for the drinks ;-)

Nice presentation, not too expensive, and a not a bad cigar to introduce a person to the joy of Habanos.
