Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 got a cabinet from rob a little while ago in one of the aged releases - code is LSU-VC-1 which i believe means a villa clara factory from May 98, though if anyone knows something more, let me know. have gone through about a dozen so far but last night, to watch the wonderful wallabies sink those hapless all blacks and start them tumbling towards the mire from where they will never again be a dominant rugby nation (it may take some time but it is happening), pulled one out. so far, they have been good to very good. i had a box from 97, from which i think i may have one or two left, that were specatular and the 98s had not matched them. still, they had been very enjoyable. it was absolutely brilliant (so good night all round). stood up far ahead of the others so far and as good or better than anything from the 97 box. along with one or two hamlets, this was far and away the best cigar i have had this year. all honey, raisins, nuts, spice. wonderfully balanced, burnt slowly and consistently. subtle and complex. masses of honey. from the first puff, it was obvious that this was something special and in a different realm to those tried previousloy. can't wait to try more. granted i have long been a fan of the partagas lusi's but by any standards, this was an absolute superstar. 98.
Colt45 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Thanks for the review. Just for grins, how would you compare these to the '01 SLR DC - if you had to choose one or the other, which would it be?
greenpimp Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Sounds great. Some of my 97's have been close to that good. You're lucky Rob's gone, he would have come right over and smoked more of yours after reading this.
shrink Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Gee, Ken... You've really got a rough life. Traveling, fishing, smoking cigars, and drinking wine. For a living, yet. I'd like to read your autobiography. How did you get this gig?
greenpimp Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 » I'd like to read your autobiography. How did you get this gig? All the karma points from being a lawyer, I think Bob. He must've had a lot of evil done to him. That's how I like to justify it.
Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 » Thanks for the review. Just for grins, how would you compare these to the » '01 SLR DC - » if you had to choose one or the other, which would it be? a very tough question, especially for this early in the morning. if you compared all of the sticks i've so far smoked from the 98 cab then hands down the SLR. if you compared just this latest one, then it would be much tougher. bit like saying would you prefer the 71 romanee-conti or the 78 la tache. i'd be very very happy with either. please? as for shrink's suggestion, years of clean living. and yes, the karma of being a lawyer - all those years of selflessly helping people for no reward to myself (those people are better known as partners). however, it is not all beer and skittles. you might remember that last year i unknowingly made a bad error and moved to a new house - it sits right between rob's office and rob's home. for that sort of karma, i should be fishing every day and cabs of lusi's and SLR DC's should be tumbling from the sky.
Colt45 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Thanks, fence-sitter. Just remember, what has gone around eventually comes back around.
Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 » Thanks, fence-sitter. Just remember, what has gone around eventually comes » back around. hence the reason i now get to smoke cigars and go fishing. living near rob - did that not get through. seriously re the cigars, if offered one, i'd probably go SLR as i think i might only have one left, perhaps two, so not going to get to see it much more.
El Presidente Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 » » hence the reason i now get to smoke cigars and go fishing. living near rob » - did that not get through. Hell Ken...I only pop around to make sure you haven't been suffocated by cardboard boxes. You are my personal charity ;-)
