Discontinued in the '70s I think. Released in 1995 for the 150 comemeration of the Partagas Factory.

Wasnt there a 155 comemerative as well? I had a fiver of the 150s and I think I have a couple left.

A new release is scheduled here shortly I believe. ;-)

Unless your friend is a major collector or has some connections in Cuba, chances are they were probably fake. Only available in the Salamones Espanola humidor and the Partagas 155 humidor I believe. There were also some made for various Partagas factory dinners. They will be released later this year as well, but are not for sale publicly yet.

I believe some of these were made recently by habanos in conjunction with a certain british vendor, I think around 03-04. It caused some kind of controversy. (I'm not au fait with the details).

They can be found still in britain and Ireland.

Edit. Maybe not actually a Habanos release. It may have been instead a deal with the Partagas factory.

Mike this is not correct information. I know of Partagas Salomones that have been purchased from PCC in HK, as well as from the LCDH in Lebanon. Very limited release, sort of on the scale of the "Tang" commissioned Upmanns. I have smoked several from 2000 when they were released in single coffins in boxes of 10, as well as from dress boxes of 25 from 2004. With aged, the Partagas Salomones is very flavorfull, rich earth, leather, peppery spice. I cherish them as they IMHO are very good cigars.

I knew of the 2000 that were made specially for the Phoenician Trading Company, but did not know of the ones from PCC or the ones from Britian. What I was trying to say is that these cigars are very, very expensive no matter what release and when, and that if your friend was not a collector, he probably has fakes. Maybe he is loaded and loves handing out expensive ass cigars, hell if I know :lookaround:

I smoked an 06 I bought as a single while in Geneva. They had a SPB of 25 with a Partagas factory code. It tasted like a medium bodied Partagas to me, nothing special. Could be due to young age or the fact that I smoked it partially on the boat while floating around on the Rhone. :-D

The one I smoked was very fesh, probably late 07 or early 08. It was procured by a fellow that is well know to have the goods on the "front edge" ahead of the rest of us.

Mel is correct. They are coming down the pike again and are appearing. I have a few. I do not think I tried them yet. I have a hard time believing I will like them as much as the 95/96 release, but I guess I might have to give them a decade to know that for sure....

No doubt the 97s we smoked were above and beyond better than the new production. The new Sals were very wet and young. Tough draws as well - and not as full flavored and refined as the 97s.

The new reg production Sals have a lot to live up to.
