greenpimp Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Edmundo Dantes--- USEOCT07 Smoked 5-1-08 (Birthday smoke) I've been waiting to try one of mine for a few months. Have a box tucked away and a few singles, this cigar being one of the stragglers. Paired with a nice Rosenblum San Francisco zinfandel. Full of well-kempt fruit and spice with a nice, smooth finish. Well rolled, tapered head, heavy in the hand. Firm but acceptable draw. Smelled of cedar and light cocoa. Pre-light draw straight tobacco, slightly sweet. First aromas from toasting very enjoyable. Toasty, nutty aroma. 1st3rd—Started very smooth. Smoke was very silky on the palate. Upmann/Montecristo fusion of a beginning for sure. Toasty, bean flavors. An inch in a pronounced, pleasant tang showed up, verging on cherry. Smoke remains quite enticing, sweet and aromatic. I moved it upwind so I could keep the smell. Bean and leather and tobacco. Light chocolate with some earth on the finish. Pleasant, medium bodied beginning. The cigar is quite large, bigger than it seemed in the humidor. Reclipped due to a tightening draw. Had snipped just a little, but now almost past the taper. Cigar really came to life now. Large smoke volume, spice and earth along with the bean and cream and leather and earth. If I were smoking this blind it would be neck and neck between a Montecristo and an Upmann. Interesting and provocative mix. Creaminess raises. Meaty. Tastes like a Monarca. 2nd 3rd—Cohiba-like core in the middle. More earth, herbal component. Very rich. Monte 2 with a Monarca finish. 3rd 3rd—Remains aromatic. Earthier fragrance of smoke. Strength, sage. Dark chocolate and coffee, strength is full bodied. Vanilla, mint finish. Closing like a magnificent Upmann. Sir Winston caliber, power and finesse. Balanced strong mocha. Cinnamon. All in all an excellent cigar with a very promising future. Would give it a solid 92 now, with unlimited potential, for my own taste at least.
smokum Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Damn great review. This sounds like one helluva smoke.
El Presidente Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Great review Matt. I tried my first in Havana Feb this year and your description brings it all back to me.
Sandman Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I smoked one of these on Saturday, and your description nails it. I have liked these from the day they arrived at my house last November, and since that day they have gotten better and better. Thanks for the great review. Your review is the first one that I have read besides my own that describes a Cohiba flavor to it.
Guest rob Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Great review of one of the most well constructed cigars I have ever seen. A few boxes had the pleasure of joinng my collection earlier this year - just perfect.
bassman Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 These are excellent cigars. Expensive, but so glad I got a box.
