Hugomarink
I don't know what happened here. I had a whole review that I was trying to post with the photos that seems to have completely disappeared. Bummer. Now I have to run out to get some errands done. I'll try to recreate the review later so this is complete. Btw, the score on this one is 89 but it could have been in the 92-93 range if the draw was better.

Hugomarink
» Those are some nice photo's and I like those cigars a whole lot. Thanks! My camera is not the best and I've never been much of a photographer but I am pleased with the way they came out. It's my first time doing a photo review so I'll get the technique down better on future reviews. It was fun to do and I look forward to doing more. I'll get the text up later tonight. toasterhead
Hey Hugo, Really nice review. This sounds a lot like my Maduro experience. Isn't it weird when a cigar twists and turns on you? I am hoping the disjointed flavors even out and marry with a long nap. Dave
Hugomarink
I just noticed my last paragraph with the score was left out so I just added it. NOW the review is complete (and it only took me two days to get it posted properly). :-)

Hugomarink
I received this box about six weeks ago and this is the first chance I’ve had to sample from it. In fact, this is my first experience with any of the Cohiba 5 Maduro line. Also, this is my first review for FOH so bear with me if the format isn’t exactly correct. I’ll fine tune things as I get more of these under my belt. Appearance: A rustic looking cigar with a dark and leathery, bumpy, veiny, chocolate-brown wrapper with a slight reddish hue. Construction is inconsistent as there are some soft spots, particularly at the foot where it feels under-filled, and a rock hard head that makes me fret about the draw. The cigar also feels a bit wet, and it probably is. My cooler-dor is currently at about 68%-70%, which is a bit higher than I prefer. I also did not get a chance to dry-box this baby before smoking as I normally would. Pre-light: The unlit cigar has a concentrated dark tobacco aroma and the pre-light draw confirms my fears of a tight draw, although the cigar is certainly still smokable. I pick up a modest earthy flavor with a bit of saltiness on the tongue with the first couple of pre-light draws. Smoke: Upon lighting I get an immediate blast of spicy and heavy earth flavors on the palate that are somewhat more reminiscent of a Honduran cigar than a Havana. There is also a pleasing salty tang on the lips and tongue. After a few puffs the spiciness subsides into a very full and robust buttery richness. Very nice! There is a bit of a youthful edge here indicated by some stinging of my nose and sinuses but it’s only on the fringe and not prominent enough to protrude on the good flavors. On continued puffs I get more of the buttery thick smoke although the tight draw has inhibited the smoke volume more than I’d like. This would really be phenomenal if the smoke production were more prolific. I suspect if I had dry-boxed this cigar it would have smoked better since the smoke volume and draw are indicative of a cigar that is too moist. The burn during the first third gets a little crooked but nothing too severe. I touched up the wrapper only once and things remained on track from there on out. In the second third the cigar decides to go bland on me. Nor sure where the flavor went and am wondering if the cigar will recover. Fortunately, at about the halfway point the buttery smooth and rich flavor returns. There are hints of cocoa and toffee with that same salty tang on the lips – kinda reminds me of the sweet and salty flavor of kettle corn but drizzled with a bit of dark chocolate. This is a very rich and delectable cigar! I am quite pleased with the way things are going with this – definitely better than I expected. The final third remains tasty and good although as I begin to think about how I will nub this cigar, a bitter note begins to creep in and grow more prominent. The draw also tightens up, indicating to me the cigar has given me the best it has. Bye-bye! SCORE: 89/100 -- This would have easily scored a 92-93 if the draw was better. I really liked it and look forward to enjoying more of these in the future. I will dry-box the next one I smoke from this box and revisit this review then and see if there is any improvement in the smokability. Also, I am now very interested to try the Genios and Magicos. If those big brothers of the Secretos have the same rich flavor profile as their little brother, I expect it would be quite an extraordinary smoking experience.
