Ken Gargett
for aussies, this saturday on sbs (set the video so as not to miss us whipping those kiwi wannabees) at 7.30, there is a doco on the cuban missile crisis - with some fantastic footage, especially of cuba at the time (really doesn't look like it has changed at all). part two next week. for those who have not been to cuba, quite early on there is footage of russian and cuban soldiers sitting around playing music and later, swinging around on a machine gun thingee. it is taken just in front of the courtyard of the hotel national, where these days one sits and looks out over the water while sipping on the world's best mojitos. habanablue
Thanks Ken, will look out for it! I watched a fantastic program about a year ago on SBS. It was Oliver Stone's Doco on Fidel and the regime...very very insightful and very interesting. Shows Cuba as a bastion of Socialism etc etc and Oliver did press El Presidente about concerns etc...but Fidel is one charming guy...could charm the pants off Clinton quite easily. Am always on the look out for a copy of this as I would love to have another look...

habanablue
thats the one ken...I thought it was great...and for those of you who have thoughts that once Fidel is gone, Cuba will open up better think again...his brother Raul and nephew or (son) seem to tow the party line pretty well in the piece as well....who knows they might end up selling out to the norteamericanos. best part of the movie...seeing fidel walking arund in brand new nikes...gotta love it!:-D
