BobLobLaw Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 This is a review I posted in another forum back on April 21st (before the weather turned to crap in the midwest). I am new to CC's and reviews so bear with me. Thought I would post it again here for Cohiba week, no worries if it does not qualify for the prize. Gorgeous day in Chicago yesterday. 65 degrees and sunny with minimal wind. Easily the best day of the year. After poking around in the humi I settled on a Cohiba Siglo VI for an after dinner cigar. Box Code OEB May 07. Physical Appearance - (13/15) - Light tan caramel color with one vein. Firm throughout with no soft/hard spots. The foot had a 1/4 inch crack in the wrapper that occurred during shipping. I was hoping the crack would only be a visual problem and not develop into anything else while smoking. Burn/Draw - (23/25) - Scored the triple cap with a razor and just lifted it off. This is quickly becoming my fav way to cut a cigar as it does not cause any of the filler to be cut. Prelight draw was perfect, firm without being difficult. Burn was good, got a little uneven, but quickly corrected itself. Crack never became an issue. Ash was really firm and a nice salt and pepper color. Flavor (24/25) – Prelight draw was raisin to me. Right off the bat I thought I was in for a disappointment as the cigar did not produce large volumes of smoke. Initial taste was creamy, smooth, and maybe a little floral. (Could be the Cohiba grassiness I hear about, I am so bad at describing flavors.) Into the second third the cigar really picked itself up, much more smoke and it was thicker. Little more spice on the tongue and a deeper richer chocolatey smoke. Finally, at the end and there was a sweet vanilla taste. Really pleasant. Ended up putting it down going into the final third for a variety of reasons, none of them related to the quality of the cigar. Overall Experience (32/35) – This was my first Siglo and it was a good one. I am thinking it would have kept getting better and I can’t wait to revisit in a few months. Nice heavy cigar that was just packed with tobacco. I smoked for about 1 hour 20 minutes and still had a good 30-40 min to go. Great weather didn’t hurt either. Overall 92 – Outstanding.
Colt45 Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Great review - thanks for posting. I've only smoked a few of these, and aside from not caring for the size, I found them to be rather underwhelming. To be fair, they were probably on the young side.
anacostiakat Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Good review! Fine job. ;-) I dont smoke these often these days as I think there are better values in the line and I prefer a smaller ring size. Good to hear a review on the '07. Thanks!
El Presidente Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 It qualifies Bob.....well done :-D It is amazing than an 07 cigar can be so good right off the bat. You have to feel that it has a great future.
Ken Gargett Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 terrific stuff. have always been a fan of these (and their size).
