Kingantz Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 What a beautiful morning with the temperature reading close to 60F and not a cloud in the sky. Looking through the wine-a-dor for something to smoke, I spy an RYJ Tubo No. 1 sitting on top of one of the boxes calling to me. After brewing a fresh pot of coffee, I grabbed my laptop, smoke, and mug of brew and headed outside. I couldn’t ask for a better setting! Construction was a bit rough with a good many veins, wrapper a beautiful dark brown with tiny crystalline throughout and the foot had very nice bunching, however a small amount of tobacco was sticking out (cutter maybe dull when trimming). There was a solid weight in the hand and a slight give when squeezed between the fingers. I punched the head and pre-light draw was a bit hard, however not a problem at all. Drawing gave way to an herbal flavor, possibly a bit on the floral side. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything like it before. Interesting. After toasting the foot, I fired the stick up. First draw was full bodied and smooth with just a bit of spice on the back of the throat. A bit of salty sweetness with leather and wood tickled my palate. Wood, leather, and a slight detection of that herbal/floral flavor was coming through. This was a fantastic smoke! The burn was excellent with dark gray ash and again, the draw was absolutely perfect. Not too tight, but not too loose. It continued to be medium to full bodied with the smoke being oh so smooth and delicious. Leather and wood (cedar) and a wonderful creamy sweetness with a bit of floral notes tickled my nose. Ever had a smoke make your eyes want to roll up? Well this was close to doing that for me. Simply fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar from beginning to the nubby little end. The burn stayed consistent and it had quite a complexity throughout from coffee and cream notes to floral and woody. What an amazing morning experience! Other pics this morning... Mandy enjoying the day... ...and, when about done with the smoke, she's still enjoying the day. Unfortunately, she had to get up to scratch... Tinker kept me company as well... Aren't they just sweet? Awww.... Now that's a South Carolina mosquitoe! Can you say, "blueberry pie??" Hope everyone enjoys! Take care! Greg

Alberto_Magnus Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 » Fantastic review Greg » » There is something cathartic about enjoying a cigar while your dog sleeps » at your feet :-) Nice review and pics! Was this tubo from the deluxe series (handmade) or regular one (machine-made)? Even the machine-made RyJ are excellent, I guess the best machine-made I've tried so far.
