It seemed like what a DC "could be", but never has been for me, but it was a great deal more rich than I would think a DC would ever be. I assume that would be due to the 57 ring gauge, which is going to add a component incomparable to the 49 of a DC. The Hoyo de Hoyo de Monterey de Double Double Corona Corona Monterey (HdMDCDC) Review? I'm fascinated now. ...I pull the laces from my army boots and carefully bind two Double Coronas (of ths same box naturally, anything else would be silly) together... ...I cut off the heads feeling like an overworked Robespierre... ...I toast their feet (sounds bloody sadistic)... ...the HdMDCDC starts to burn slowly, a moot point given the lawn-mower petrol soaked laces holding them together go up with more smoke than a moon launch... ...I lie on the garage floor gasping for breath in a pall of smoke, wondering why the hell I listened to Don Candido in the first place and swearing to never do this again...except with a couple of RyJ Churchills. Was curious as to how this cigar has evolved. I just realized I never responded. Sorry! This was my second Gran Piramide. The first was not long enough prior to have noticed much if any evolution. Don Candido Posted November 15, 2008 Author Share Posted November 15, 2008 I am on vacation and I brought some special smokes for the trip. Today I had a Gran Piramide from the HdM 2004 LCDH Humidor. I was wondering how fat this cigar was. On Trevor's site it shows 57 x 160 (6.3") Not your average Piramide at all... There is an oily sheen on the wrapper. The cigar got a little ugly because I carried it here in a travel humidor which pressed the wrapper... (Thanks Mark! ;-) ) The foot looks to have a nice pack. It smells of mild leather, cold. A cold draw gives tangy tobacco and cream flavors. The draw is very good. I cut the cigar about 1.5cm from the tip of the head and the ring gauge of this cut seems to be about 46. It is a fat piramide! The cigar lit up easily. Immediately, the cigar reminds me of what I would imagine a 100 point Hoyo DC to be, but righer... Very complex. Balanced. All I could ask for in a smoke. Tangy and enticing. The flavors are maybe: Cedar, Nuts, Leather, tangy Tobacco and cream. A bird joined me. He apparently liked the cigar too. Coming into the Middle third, I am wondering is this a perfect cigar? Construction and draw are beautiful. Now - there is a change. It is not awful, but it is not as good as the first half of the smoke. It is not as tangy right now and a little youth is starting to show through. It is losing some complexity. At the end of the middle third, Leather is predominent in the flavor, with cream. On the Final third, I am realizing I am still really loving this cigar. I am inhaling it into my nose, which I do from time to time (do not recommend) to taste it better. I am enjoying it so much, I am drawing too often and getting the smoke hot! There is a sharper leather flavor now with less cream. Maybe some burnt wood or coffee too. As I finished this smoke, I thought to myself, if they could make a tobacco flavored cologne, I would want it to smell like this smoke. I hate ratings, but I will throw something out there.
