anacostiakat Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 TEBSEP07 Received these about a month ago and this is the second that I have tried. The first one was an after lunch I had at my local B&M so I didnt note a review. Nice solid construction. Chocolate brown wrapper. Perfect cap. No smell at cold though. Fired it up and my first impression is cocoa and youth. I say youth because the flavors seem muted. We will see how this develops. Nice smooth nose with a little tingle of pepper. My initial thoughts are that these need mucho time. I wish I had a camera. Maybe I'll go out and get a new one tomorrow. There are two spots on the wrapper I didnt notice before that looks like finger prints. LOL I think some of the rollers fingerprints got on it when the did not wipe their hands after applying the cap. LOL Maybe I am wrong but it sure looks like it and it is rough not mold. Two seperate spots. Damn I wish I had a camera. I digress. LOL Draw is excellent. Just enough resistance producing copious amounts of smoke. The cocoa seems to be morphing into espresso like nuances. This is nothing like the Gigantes which I love. No complexity due to youth hopefully? Now honestly I dont look for a ton of complexity in a robusto but I do expect a progression of flavors. I am getting a muted version of that progression. I am disappointed as we reach the third way point. I would reach for a PSD#4 or CoRo before this one even after some age. Flavors do improve in last third. Very nice. Anyone who has been ranting about how approachable the '07s are is full of crap. LOL Yea they are approachable if you want to smoke young cigars. Now if you are buying to hold and the "try" is promissing... I'll give this one a 89 out of 100.
Colt45 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I cannot speak on the '07 specifically, but the RC is the cigar I like least of the line - and I truly enjoy Bolivar.
bassman Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Probably just too young. My early 05s are delicious.
wp2 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 With some age on them, these IMVHO are excellent smokes.
anacostiakat Posted April 6, 2008 Author Posted April 6, 2008 I pulled another one of these out this evening. SEP07 so you do the math. What an improvement! I am very happy with how these are progressing. Are they ready? No. They are not complete. And grant you I have had a number of brandy and sodas. But a nice progression of flavors. Easily descernible Boli flavor. Not far off from an aged CG at times. Happy. . .
El Presidente Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 » Happy. . . Glad to hear it. Go to a horse yearling sale. Same Dame and Sire. Spend 100K and purchase three. Completely different performance as two year olds. One will mature faster than another, One faster than another...all differing temperaments. As three year olds the situation can change again. The plodder all of a sudden shows a maturity and a touch of speed unseen as a two year old. The fast two year old all of a sudden goes to seed.
