Merry Xmas Rob. Thanks for the honest review of something that every other "journalist" would automatically give 95+.

Give Cohiba a treat for me.

I echo this, good looking pup.

As always the honest review is appreciated. I know I will never smoke one but I have to think I would be dissapointed considering that price tag.

Thanks for the review Prez...assuming that it's the same blend of a humidor version, what did you think of it's aging potential?

and...is that a real live crocodile that you have?

Merry Christmas and thanks for the review. You are one of the few people who can actually say they have smoked a Behike. Good for you for smoking it and letting us know how it was.

Thank you for the review Rob. I believe that is the first Behike that I vicariously witnessed being smoked. Usually it has been along the lines of "a friend of my uncle smoked one", if not further removed.

Merry Christmas all! Chrismas morning here and I thought I would quickly post this review before we head out for lunch with the extended family :-)

It is nice taking some time off and simply enjoying the Ponderosa, cigar in one hand, wine in the other, Cohiba my dog by my side and Salty the croc in the pool.

It was February 2006 and both Ken and I were looking forward to the Cohiba Behike Press Conference. Somehow we managed to get Journalist status through a mate at Habanos s.a and he was so so happy to have us going to the initial worldwide release of which he was very proud.

Unfortunately....Ken and I had a late....late....night. To cut a long story short we only made it back to our respective hotel rooms a few hours before the 10am Press Conference (what a ridiculous hour to hold a press conference  ) I always regretted not going because I felt that I had let down our HSA mate and I felt worse when a few days later he gifted me a Behike which were being handed out to selected people at the festival.

This is a massive cigar. Lancero size in length with a 52 guage. Pigtail, good construction although mine looks a little wonky after travelling around the world with little protection. Yet, it has rested in my humidor for 18 months and I thought it apt to kick off Christmas with a Behike.

Smell at cold is an interesting mix of vanilla bean, hay and tobacco. Clipped the cap and the draw was easy.....I suspect at $450 USD each they were not going to permit a tight draw ;-). Very clean grassy flavours on the palate.

Fired up the foot and this beast of a cigar fires up effortlessly. Light Medium in body it has an immediate soft profile of vanilla, dry grass and light milk coffee. Very Cohiba "ish" but lacking a little depth of body. No pepper through the nose which is disappointing but at the same time the cigar has a gentle elegance which alternatively excites and disappoints me.

Long dry grass stalks, vanilla beans, a little milk coffee. The Vanilla is morphing now into a toffee. All is well in the world except for the fact that the cigar is still light medium. If this cigar could maintain this flavour profile but in a Medium Full body then I would indeed consider it one of the best cigars I have ever had.

It is a hard life being a large cigar. You have an expectation thrust upon you to deliver never ending changes. Few large format cigars do it well. Pre 2000 Lusi's do it beautifully.....The SLR DC from and post 2001 do it beautifully. I adored the Cohiba DC EL, The Cohiba Sublime shows great promise as does the Ramon Allones Estupendos. Have a great Ramon Allones Gigantes and you feel like you need no other cigar. Yet, the attainment of real complexity in large format cigars is a rare jewel.

There is a distinct lack of complexity in this Behike cigar. By this I mean that it does its core flavour profile well but at no time during its length does it introduce new flavours or alter its strength of mouthfeel. It is an 89/90 cigar from beginning to end. Yet, I have had La Gloria Cubana Tainos with a similar flavour delivery and with similar rating scores. If you take dollar investment into account the La Gloria Cubana Tainos wins in a no contest.

Now I have no waay of telling if this "Behike" as gifted to me by my HSA mate is the actual blend of the numbered "Behike's" in the humidors. I doubt it is too far off as I have had it confirmed that a few 100 extra were rolled for the Festival event.

In the end I thought it an excellent mild to medium bodied cigar with distinct grassy, vanilla, toffee and coffee favours caressing the palate. Very sexy mouthfeel, classy tobacco with quality and elegance emanating from every poor.

However....I am still a little underwhelmed. As I said prior....in a Medium/Full format it would be phenomenal.

I apologise for the lack of photo's but my home point and shoot refused to co-operate on close ups.
