diab0lik Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Hi, my mate just gave me a box of cohiba genios for xmas. He got it when he was in hong kong and had them bouncing around in his luggage for a couple of weeks while he was touring other places in asia. i wanted to know how long i should leave the cigars to rest in my humidor. i really want to smoke one for new years, do you think 10 days is enough rest? Thanks

Thanks Those travelled Genios are likely to be feeling quite hurt from the mistreatment. IMHO, 10 days is too short a timespan for them to forget their sufferings. Perhaps it would be better to get a single ready-to-be-smoked Genio from your local Habanos purveyor than risk wasting a fine smoke and a fine moment.
diab0lik Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 hmm ok i'll just have to wait then. i still got a few other options maybe i'll smoke my Slr DCs instead
Colt45 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I'd agree that after being toted around for some time, ten days may be a little short for full acclimatization. You could smoke one just the same, but why take a chance at being disappointed? I think you have a good idea - smoke something you already have, that's ready to go, that you know you'll enjoy.
jdbrown Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Yes, It is best to wait a month or three..but what the hell! Its New Years so just smoke SOB.
jaylax5 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I would wait atleast 1 month...also consider that they probably weren't humidifed appropriately while being totted around and may need to get some life back in them. Just my 2 cents. I hope they smoke well.
Tampa1257 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Just my humble opinion, but because you have stated that the Cohiba's "Bounced around" for a few weeks, you probably have some very unhappy cigars. They have been mistreated and without proper humidity for quite a while now. I would also have to consider that these are still brand new cigars and are very very young. I would not even consider touching them for 60-90 days at the very earliest because of the treatment they have suffered. Personally, they would go into the humidor and not be seen again for 3-5 years, but thats just me. Seriously, after the suffering they have gone through I would not even think about smoking one for about 90 days.
diab0lik Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Ok great thanks for the advice guys. i guess i'll just keep the box for next new years
aavkk Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Believe me I tried so hard to disprove the 30 day rule of thumb and I can honestly say that it is a must! Just last month I smoked a PLPC a week after receiving them and let me tell you it was a letdown. I waited 3 more weeks to smoke my second and as Rob would say, it was a cracker. Night and day. I agree, get another Genios from a vendor that is well stored and look forward to the next 25 great smokes.
