Gentlemen,

A very dear friend of mine that has tremendous real estate holding in NYC has various commercial properties for sale. There is a Dutch consortium that wishes to purchase one of his buildings. As part of the official offer, a box of Cohiba Behike cigars are wriiten in the contract.

I really do not wish to see my friend get screwed.

Can someone tell me what the actual value in USD this box goes for and what steps would his attorney take to verify authenticity of the box.

I'm quite interested in helping him out because if the box is real, he promised me 5 sticks.

Jimmy2, if you're reading this thread, the property in question is Kings Plaza shopping mall on Flatbush Ave

The Behike is about 20,000 for a humidor of 40 cigars.Every cigar band is numbered. You could most likly get it apraised at a auction house. Hope that helps..

Hmm... I am baffled.

Please forgive the question, but how can an item that could only have been gotten through "trade with the enemy" (and thus illegal) can be incorporated in a legal contract?

I would assume that both parties would bear the legal liability in such a contract (if both US-based entities)... but if the selling party is a foreign entity and the item is held abroad (only an assumption), would only the US-based buyer get screwed?

I am paranoid (it shows)... I believe in always covering all legal bases... Lady Luck is always on the side that does not need her...

Zuma,

From what I know of this tentative deal, the proposed buyers are Dutch. They are aware that the seller is a huge cigar aficiando and are "dangling a carrot" to induce his acceptance of their offer.

When you are talking about multi-million dollar real estate sales, everyone is equal on the playing field regarding ability to pay asking price. This would put the propective buyers a notch above the rest.

The approximate cost of the humidor is / was U.S. $18,000 for forty cigars (about $450 per stick).

Value is up to the individual. There are those who feel the Behike was a travesty.

My own opinion is that it would be absurd to have one of these humidors tied into a multi million dollar

real estate deal. But I'm no high flyer......

Its the "Big Boys have Big Toys" nonsense.

I'm curious, has anyone ever actually smoked one of these sticks?

Lots of people have smoked a "behike", ie. a cigar of the size. No one I know or have heard of has actually taken one out of a Behike humi and smoked that.

I believe the current market price on a Beehike Humidor is around $40,000.00 US ($1000/smoke).

I am in commerical real estate myself and would be very leery of this type of proposal. Sure, we would all like a box of these. Since these are not being readily bought and sold in the open market it's hard to place a value on these. It's simply whatever an individual would pay. My suggestion would be to get all the numbers etc from the box and contact LCDH for authenticty verification. I know someone in the entertainment industry that got burned on a similar transaction!

This does not really answer the question of legality.

The closest I got to a Behike was to hold one and smell it.

(Any takers on this straight line?)

If it is a contract for US property, it would not be in the legal contract.

$15,000-$20,000 is chump change in a multi-million dollar real estate transaction.

For you to broadcast something like this , when your friend can be easily known ie the owner of record for the property is not wise.

I thought this myself............would suggest deleting address from post.

Thanks for the heads up fellas, but I seriously doubt that Homeland Security Agents are gonna bust down the door to the closing table with guns drawn and start screaming... "BEHIKE!!!! BEHIKE, MOTHER F%$CKER!!!!!'

I think the cheapest you wil find a box is $15000 Euro.

I have one which was gifted to me by HSA. In my home humidor. I will fire it up and review some time over the Christmas break :-)

Rob,

Will look forward to that review! Does HSA keep track of where these are and who has like other vintage collectables are tracked?

Others may know more but each owner has his name inscribed on the humidor. I believe the distrbutors forward the names to HSA but I could be totally wrong.
