Don Candido Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 » This is box 0279 0f only 1020 made in 10s Mel, Nice Pictures. So what did you think of the smoke? I just saw this topic, about twenty minutes after lighting up a Magnifico. They are young, but showing what they will become I think much more clearly than the Por Larranaga Robusto RE Asia Pac. They are much more subtle and elegant than the PL Robusto, at this stage. They are very different cigars, not only due to shape, but also blend. I am not sure which I will like more ultimately. Probably the Robusto. It is kind of like comparing apples and oranges though. I find the Magnifico to be a little weighty, perhaps packed heavy, but with a decent draw, still. I like the size. It feels more like a Hermosos No.1 in my mouth, than a Double Robusto. -DC
kjellfrick Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I haven't read a negative review of this cigar yet, well that goes for the Robusto as well, come to think of it. The story behind its birth, as depicted on the website of a well known cigar merchant, is an interesting read. It will be good to be able to make my own appraisal of both these cigars within the week.:-) So far I have only smoked one of this years LE's or RE's that wasn't to my taste - the R&J Escudos. The others have been good to stellar. I'm beginning to like this new Limitada scheme from Habanos. The smokes are expensive, yes, but I feel they become better and better.
Mel39 Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 » Mel, it's that "Smoking kills" sticker that just gets my juices flowing! » Oh, and thanks for the pix... My pleasure, Shrink. One good thing about new boxes is that the stickers are easy to peel off..We are not quite as bad as the Antipdodeans yet with their scary photos of cancerous tongues etc. Such warnings will never deter determined smokers. More apt posters should be stuck everywhere saying "Life Kills" at least that would be honest. Mel39
Mel39 Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 » Nice Pictures. So what did you think of the smoke? » -DC Sorry DC, after buying the 10 box. I could only afford a pair of singles and I will hang on to those until I'm in the mood. As a noob to Habanos, I am no real judge yet anyways. My untrained palate has only two tastes; Like it or Don't like it:-D Mel39
Loki Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Nice pic Mel. You may want to bring one to The NYC Herf. I'm sure that have something to trade.:-D
Ginseng Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Beautiful photos. Does anyone have any idea why the Magnificos band is different (nicer) than the Robustos band? Wilkey
Colt45 Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 » Does anyone have any idea why the Magnificos band is different (nicer) » than the Robustos band? Ginseng, from what I've read, it is a replica of the band used one hundred years ago for PL cigars.
Mel39 Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 » Nice pic Mel. You may want to bring one to The NYC Herf. » I'm sure that have something to trade.:-D I'd love to Loki but at £UK18 each and the number of guests attending, well the math don't work in accordance with my pocket. It really hurt to have to pay £179.50 for the 10 count. The UK tobacco tax is a killer. Still to decide what to bring along and have had a warning not to attempt to bring too many Cuban sticks in. Mel39
Mel39 Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 » Beautiful photos. » » Does anyone have any idea why the Magnificos band is different (nicer) » than the Robustos band? » » Wilkey Just re-read the accompanying slip (shown above Wilkey;-) ) that explains the band but noticed a spelling mistake on NUMERED. I wonder if this is like postage stamps in that a misprint can be worth a fortune.:-D Mel39 PS. You'd have thought that with the amount of effort H&F has put into this project, that they would've done a spell check!

I think Habanos s.a make one intentional error on all releases. It is like a Spanish "Where's Wally?" ;-)
Jimmy2 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I want them so bad I just love this brand and this is a classic size that I think was discontinued in the 1970's. Also would love to smoke just one and would be happy to just do that but the price is just insane. Mel injoy them you are a lucky man.

Ok, so I'm blind and stupid. :-P Thanks, Mel and Colt. Wilkey
stever Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Nicely done Mel. Are you going to smoke one at J. J. Fox?

I understand holding onto them. They could use a few months in the humidor anyway. They are great now, but they will be better. Whenever you do decide to try it, I do not think you will be disappointed. Everything I have tried which has been very recently released has been top notch. And by the way, until you develop a better trained palate, all you need to know is if you like it or not. Life is too short for a bad cigar! Cheers, -DC

Mel39 Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 » Nicely done Mel. Are you going to smoke one at J. J. Fox? Did you get yours Steve? As I said I have 2 singles and I think that when I eventually torch them, it will be at home with an alcoholic beverage.:-)
Mel39 Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 » Great photo's Mel! Praise from the Master Photographer is praise indeed, Thanks Rob. They were actually taken at work with a Sony compact, a newer 12mp model that I carry with me. My main camera is a Nikon DSLR. » I think Habanos s.a make one intentional error on all releases. I assumed you smoked one. » Cheers, » -DC The colours were quite unnatural. The red cast was from the camera's infra red sensor. Smoking one will be like burning a £20 note so I will wait for an appropriate occasion. I also bought a few singles of the Hoyo de Monterrey - Regalos Romeo y Julieta - Escudos and the Trinidad - Ingenio which I am also sure will be enjoyable after a little rest. My whole stash is made up of recommendations from this site, to which I am deeply indebted and I can't recall a smoke I didn't enjoy to some degree. Regards, Mel39

I would worry too much about what you bring. We'll have plenty to share. Worst case senario would be that US customs would seize and hold your cigars at the airport and return them to you when you depart. International travellers are allowed to have Habanos but not bring bring them into the USA John

If you were looking for guidance on which to try first, I might start with those. Enjoy!
stever Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Mel: Received a call from Paul at J. J. Fox. Purchased a box and I'm going to have it held there in a locker until my next visit. I'll bring along some of the PL Pobustos for you to try when I'm back. The PLRO is a nice smoke. Very tasty, with toasty and subtle flavors.
