El Presidente Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Saw the fires rageing across SOCAL on Fox this morning. Keep us up to speed on what is going on. All SOCAL members ok? Whats the status? Stay safe fella's.
wp2 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Nice post Rob. I know some guys are OK, but don't know about all.
KB24 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I'm about 15 miles from Malibu and its pretty bad out here. Last night we had a lot of smoke and ash around the apartment. This morning it still smelled but the smoke had blown out to sea. Pretty crazy the way the sky looked last night with all the smoke. Bad thing is that there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. -P
El Presidente Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Worst and best case scenario for next couple of days? What is the weather (wind?). Any likely break in the weather? I detest bushfires. Have a habit of turning on you and making fools of planners.
Claudius Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Wow, I didnt know that. Keep safe, guys! The weather's been all over the place these past years. Only this summer there was a big heat wave over Southern Europe while the UK got flooded. Crazy stuff...

Cam Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 terrible stuff been watching most of the day, stay safe guys, hope all is well for each and every one of you!
smokum Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Couple guys from a Muscle car site where I moderate have their stuff packed and their cars backed in the driveway ready to blow out of there when the call comes...scary stuff.

There are saying the fires are 0% contained and will most likely keep making there way to the coast and will burn everything in sight. It's not a good situation. Now there are around 15 fires across Southern Cali. I will report tomorrow when I get up in the morning and check things out. Thanks for the concern. -Patrick
GoSteelers Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 My bar manager is from San Diego, he was on the phone with his Folks last evening, they had just been told to evacuate their home. They also told him that at least 1/4 of San Diego residents have been evacuated from their homes.
KB24 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 In my opinion the winds are worse today than yesterday and the temp could reach 100 in parts of Southern Cali. They think the winds should calm tonight but no one knows for sure. I saw a picture of a heli picking up water from a local golf course's lake right next to the green. I also woke up Sunday morning to what sounded like a heli landing in my backyard! -Patrick
Loki Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I too hope that all our SoCal brethren are safe. CNN is now saying that 500,000 have been told to evacuate.
KB24 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 They are saying there will be no let up in the wind until Thursday. And what's even worse is that they have already classified 2 of the fires as 100% Arson. I am sure there will be more after all is said and done. I will take some pics of the sky outside my balcony for you guys to see and post them in a few hours. -Patrick
xibbumbero Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 The wind has died down and reversed direction. Now,the smoke and ash that passed by/on us on sunday, monday, tuesday,& wednesday is now drifting back from the ocean. X:-(

Now,the smoke and ash that » passed by/on us on sunday, monday, tuesday,& wednesday is now drifting back » from the ocean. X:-( We are no stangers to bushfires in this country. Destructive sons of ******* that show no mercy. It is a shamefull fact that a majority are started as an act of arson. Cheap jollies by the twisted minds of our community. I can't recall how many times in the following investigation, that a member of the volunteer fire fighters was arrested as the culprit.
xibbumbero Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Rob,I'm a retired FF and fought many wildland fires during my career. They're always difficult particularly with the wind, heat and smoke. Many times there would be no fire crew support in terms of relief, drinking water and food. Before you knew it you had fought fires for 12 or more hours w/o food. Thank goodness the residents would always go around giving us water and food. Then after it was all over, you would cough up black loogies for a week or more. X:-|
