craigos Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I am wondering, given Robs ability to taste a lot of different cigars, does he have a top 10 all favorites list? Regards Craig

Are you talking about » current cigars (late 2005-2007)? Sure - that way we have fun trying them all (no fun reading about things we can no longer induldge in ... in my very limited cigar experience (maybe 6 months), you reviews have resonated the most with my palate - so I hope to use the list to construct some serious samplers. Thanks Craig

Claudius Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I'm surprised you find the Punchs better than the RAs, but maybe that's just me... Pretty much agree with all the rest, although I find the RyJ SC a little to mellow and boring to "just miss" the list. But hey, each to their own :-)

bassman Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I've gotten some SLR DCs every year since 01, except 03 as I never saw any offered from that year. So far, 01 is by far the best. Do you think the 07s will be on par with the 01s?

Colt45 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 » How about an 'El Presidente Favorite Sampler' ... "Lisa, what has not been moving as of late?" "Well Rob, cigars X, Y, and Z" "This week's Fearless Leader sampler - cigars X, Y, and Z - get 'em while they're hot!"

stever Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 The Punch Super Robusto didn't even make the second tier?! The RAE appears to be developing a bit more quickly, but the PSR may ultimately have the legs to go the distance. BTW, of last year's regional releases, I find both the PSR and the Juan Lopez Obus to exhibit the most "mongrel" quality, as you put it. As a side note, I find both PCC and both French (Obus and Libertador) 2006 regional releases to be very appealing.

Ken it was late 2005/06/07 production. I think the SLR DC are the equal of the 01 HOWEVER there is more variability in wrapper than I like or am used to seeing from SLRDC. The Punch RR SR shows all the signs of greatness. However it is not ready and can't be put in my first or second tier because every other cigar in that list smokes well now. If I was to include "Bolters" in my list: (A fancied horse at long odds) Punch Regional Release Robusto Juan Lopez Obus Partagas 898V 06/07
bassman Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Smoked a MAR 07 SLR DC yesterday literraly right odd the truck. Fantastic cigar- strong & earthy. Not sure yet if it's as good as the 01s, but DEFINITELY the best since the 01.

On another note and year I did obtain a Partagas Lonsdale Cab dated April 01. Maybe as good as anything and still room for improvement. Why did they discontinue such a superb smoke???

Claudius Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 » Why did they discontinue such a superb smoke??? To bring it back as an EL or RE for more money. They have decided to make us smoke volado rolls for 5 years only to bring back normal, good-tasting "medium" ring gauge cigars back after we're desperate and willing to pay anything for a good cigar.
