That is just a beautiful cigar look at that oily shinny wrapper with that label a class act all the way.

I need boxes of these if they were not so $$$ but the cost is worth it when they are on.

Last week I had a single of these which I got from Lisa not too long ago, so we may even have smoked ones out of the same box. Your review is great and reminds me exactly of my experience.

I smoke on an outdoor patio covered by an awning in my neighborhood of single family houses with yards. It's a typical old-fashioned suburban set-up. Three different neighbors next door or across the street commented on the Siglo IV while they were outside. The special aroma wafted over the entire area. My son came walking up and said "that one's awesome." No doubt it's a great cigar.

As much as there is to admire and enjoy in it, when I asked myself whether I wanted a box I wasn't very inspired. Of course it's a lot bigger and more expensive, but I just think the Siglo VI is more exciting. It has stronger flavors, an amazing progression, more power, more of everything really. On the other hand, I'm not always looking for a wild ride. The IV made me feel calmly superior.

Also Rob, just to comment on your closed thread above, I've been wondering for a while how and why you have kept your prices in dollars at the same level. Thanks for the heads up about a price rise, and curse you for creating a perceived need to spend a lot more now in order to save a little later.

Enjoyed the review Rob, kudos to you. On a day when you fall through the back stairs and your humidifier blows up for the second time in a month you still manage an amusing review.

Bravo.

I smoked a Dec 06 IV over the weekend and felt it was a waffler. All over the page though very good. Better than the 1st I had smoked from the same box in May. Good to sample a few times a year as they need to age about three years for them to reach full potential.

» Hey Prez, what was the time period that you were losing faith? I recently

The 01's have been one of my favourite IV's. I lost faith late/03/04/and most of 05. Some late 05 were excellent.

Years ago the Cohiba Siglo IV was along with the Siglo V my least favourite Cohiba. The Siglo V still is my least favoured of the six cigar Siglo line up. The Siglo V to me lacks intensity. Smooth....yes....but it lacks compleity and direction.

The Siglo IV on the other hand was big and brassy. To me it was along with the Siglo I the strongest of the Cohiba Siglo line and it had a spice kick to it that I did not see often elsewhere in the Cohiba lines.

Then I ran into a few boxes which were all power and no finesse. I put three or four of these boxes away for personal use as I thought they would age. They didn't. They got more bitter by the year...and so did I.

I forgot the Siglo IV for about three years but re-aquainted myself with them at the back end of 2005. Rich, smooth, cream and honey sweet with a nice kick of white pepper.

And so this morning I reached for a January 06 example from an open box in the humidor.

Nicely rolled specimen with a classic Cohiba wrapper. Fellt quite silky in the hand. Good weight. Aroma at cold was sweet tea and tobacco.

Clipped the cap and took a draw as lisa came up to the deck and handed me the phone. Ken Gargett on the line.

EP: "Hi Ken"

KG: "Salutations and normal nonsense to you to"

EP: "What can I do for you mate?"

KG: "How important is the UK market for you? .....I may have created an International incident"

EP "Ken...you already destroyed my KIWI market"

KG " Yes...well...I supect the UK market may be following suit"

EP " Ken...is it the Wallabies again?"

KG "OF COURSE IT IS THE BLOODY WALLABIES!!! Graham called me a sore loser....A SORE LOSER...SOUR GRAPES...CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!

:lookaround: ......crickets chirping......:lookaround:

KG " Well I posted right back...and I may have mentioned you to"

EP "Ken...can't we all just play nice. We were woefull...they played to their strengths...it was a beautiful execuion of.."

KG "BOLLOCKS! ...and now the poisonous Hobbitt Jones is lambasting us in the press...TRAITOR!"

EP "Ken...you are going to have a heart attack...and send me broke. I can rule out the KIWI Market, The UK market, Scientologists are gone and the US gun lobby is hanging on by a fingernail."

KG " Just like to help where I can"

So....in the midst of Kens continuing tirade aginst the evil empires of world rugby...I focused again on my Cohiba Siglo IV. All of a sudden it had become a beacon of saneness, a port in a storm....my security blanket.

The test draw was perfect leaving a slight buzz in the tongue. I was a little surprised as it was not yet lit but it was doing its best to garner my attention.

Fired up the foot and it was straight into all that is good about Cohiba. I wish I had a racehorse which would perform so instantly out of the shute.

Plumes of white smoke, mellow creamy coffee flavours but a noticeable absence of white pepper spice for which I always look forward to in a Siglo IV. It was probably 10 minutes before the white pepper kicked in and when it did it did so in spades. Medium bodied, lush palate feel, creamy, lemongrass and a nice core of quality white coffee.

I felt that this example is a little lighter in style than the traditional Siglo IV. It is silky smooth and balanced with a flavour delivery which was clean and precise. The performance was a little clinical for my liking...lacking a little passion...a little "wildness"... but I am a hard marker.

By the end of the first third the burn was exquisite. The cigar does not stray away from creamy coffee, lemongrass, a touch of honey. White pepper less pronounced. In the world of cigars this example was a perfect gentleman...a prefect. The body was still mid...occasionally dropping to light medium but I noticed a definitive increase from the halfway point. Now it is medium full and coarse black pepper corn and a little charred BBQ enter the fray. It is a welcome addition as it adds a little mongrel to the cigar. The cream mixes perfectly with the more agressive elements and the touch of honey adds a highlight to the flavour.

The Siglo IV was at its best in the last third as the body maintained a medium full profile but the black coffee with a dash of honey lingered on the palate. There was also a doughy/doughnut flavour right to the very end which worked well with the black coffee.

A fine and much needed cigar this morning

89/100 4.5/6 smokerings with a hell of a lot of developement to go.
