hoyopr Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Diplomatico No.5 OEB DIC 06 I’ve tried three of these, on the construction / draw, 1 was loosely filled, 1 was very tight and the one I just finished was on the firm side. Today’s sample was light – medium bodied and the smoke was plentiful and the burn was straight. Flavour very nice with definite light pepper, some back ground of raisin and possibly some sweeter baking spice. In the second half there was an almost buttery note, this maybe the saffron others have mentioned, (I’m still quite new and although I have a past that involved tastings of beverages, I’m still at the discovery stage with cigars). Near the end I felt it had some almost bread flavour and this cigar smoked smoothly to the end. I’m slowly trying a lot of different cigars to determine what will be on the “MUST have in the humidor at all times” list. For this size range so far I have the Partagas Short and the Siglo 1 & 2 and am looking at some others for the colder months, to vary things up. As enjoyable as this Dip 5 is, and it is a very nice cigar, it’s not on The List at this time. PS: Happy Thanksgiving from Canada.
Colt45 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Thanks for the review - a cigar I've yet to try, but have wanted to, along with the Punch Petit Punch. In the perla size, I do recommend the Montecristo No.5, and agree with the Cohiba Siglo I.
El Presidente Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Thanks for the review I don't think that Cuba makes a bad Perla. I get frustrated occasionally with underfilled or overfilled half corona's but the construction and cnsistency is improving. What I do like is that each Perla has a very disticntive flacvour profile that is very true to its Marque. Dip 5 tastes like Diplomatico. Monte 5 is definately a Monte, Cohiba Siglo 1 a Cohiba etc etc.

smokum Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Gonna have to try Dip 5's...but it's hard to keep my hands off these Punch Petit Punch right now....

I've been ordering 3's & 4's of ones I wish to try, (Thanks Rob for having such a great selection & Lisa for outstanding performance above and beyond), and will be trying a variety smaller cigars including SC Principe, RASCC, Boli Bonita, Boli PC, Parti Conn3, Boli CJ & Punch PCdP. I didn't get any Monte 5, as I have just read too often about inconsistencies in the entire line. Having said that I did order 3 of the Monte Esp #2 & I made what may have been a rooky mistake. I let them rest for about 6 weeks and then thought as these are from Nov 04 I can try one, I'll be leaving the other 2 until next year some time. I think I now know what is meant by certain cigars need a lot of time to age.
