How about the weird Aussie law that it is illegal to shoot a burglar inside your own house unless he has a gun? If he has a knife..cant shoot him either...(This is where it turns gray.....if he intends to use the knife on you, can you shoot him?)

Even Burglars have rights..right?:yes::surprised:

i'm not sure it is set out as such. the law, at least when i was at law school but who knows now, allowed the home owner to use, and i forget the exact wording but is is something like, all reasonable force etc etc, to resolve the situation. the courts have sometimes then taken it as shooting an intruder is in excess of reasonable force. i suspect if a little old lady was being hit by a body builder and grabbed a gun, it might be considered reasonable, whereas the reverse is unlikely.

Might as well ask him to come in for a drink. Tell him to take what he wants and claim it in the insurance later. Civilized way of being burgled.

Right?

i should also add that most aussies have a slightly different attitude to guns than some other countries whose founders apparently decreed it was ok to wander the streets with anti-tank weapons and fire them at anyone who sneezes out of turn. i know i felt deprived going to a school where kids carried footballs and cricket bats instead of uzis.
