nugget
Thanks Rob, you will be getting my order soon, I do like to take my time smoking and always love a good Cohiba. The last great Cohiba that I had was the LE 2004 Double Corona. How do you think these compare?

winelover
Great review Rob. Just out of curiousity, what did you drink when you smoked the cigar? Do you usually couple it with alcohol or just water?

Thanks Completely different. The Cohiba EL Piramides are fuller in body and are less cocoa based. The Cohiba Pirimide is astounding in its delivery of a wide range of Fruit flavours: apricots, raisins, citrus. What we have in the Genios is a cocoa and chocolate based cigar. I mean "laden" in these charachteristics.
El Presidente
I have three of these now the last Friday afternoon with Smithy. I am going to go broke if I keep smoking these Simply exceptional. Along with the Cohiba Pirimides the finest cigar I have smoked this year and by a fair margin. El Presidente
Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios POS ABR 07 Robusto Extra I will start by reviewing the best first only becaus I can still remember it from late yesterday afternoon. I tried my first Genios (Robusto Extra) at the launch in Havana in February. I was impressed but wondered how true to the original this current production would be. I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful looking cigar. Aroma at cold is dusted cocoa and sweet tobacco. Construction is flawless, nicely filled. Clipped the cap to find a perfect draw and cocoa and milk on the lips. Fired up the foot, slow to combust suggesting still a little damp but it did fire up in a slow and meandering manner. Plenty of thick white smoke. Aroma reminded me of rice pudding with a stick of cinnamon. Medium full in body. Cool semi sweet cocoa and toasted tobacco flavours in the opening inch. Clean deep flavour. Not an ounce of bitterness. Mature in its poise with a classy refined opening. Padron Anniversary like but with more body. Something remarkable happend at the first third mark. Intense sweet chocolate notes. If you could roll a block of dark chocolate and smoke it...then you would have the Genios. There are few times in your life that a cigar stops you in your tracks and commands your attention to the full. The cigar reaches such a pitch of sublime exellence that nothing would drag you away. I was in this zone for about 20 minutes as wave after wave of chocolate/raisins/coffee washed the palate in a surreal performance. One of those cigar moments you always remember. By the last third the crescendo of flavour was slowly settling back to its opening profile. Cocoa and coffee. The body throughout never strayed from Medium. The flavour in the opening third also medium, second third: Full and now back to medium. This is a decadent cigar. One to smoke slowly. If you are a fast smoker of cigars you will lose so much that this cigar can deliver. It burns slowly and seductively taking its time to showcase its layers of intrigue. To me it is an instant classic one which I will have on hand at all times. It is far and away the best of the three (none of which are bad) but the Genios is something very very special 95/100 5/6 Smokerings.
