Mike33 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Rob, this isn't the same as the Belicosos right? When were these discontinued and were they widely released?
shrink Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I hope that you sold the rest of these to Ken before posting this review.
greenpimp Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I have a box of RyJ Belicosos from 2001 that are still the worst box of Cuban cigars I ever bought. All they do is piss me off. Some of the prettest cigars I possess, strangely enough. Genius how they somehow combine bad flavor and no flavor however.
El Presidente Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 » Rob, this isn't the same as the Belicosos right? When were these » discontinued and were they widely released? Mike these Piramides showed up in 2000/2001. I think they were gone by 2002. Actual Box code is PAROCT01 I haven't seen any since. They were woefull then and they are woefull now. They are a full size Piramide.
Mel Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Damn hate to see what you'd say if you really didn't like it. Send me the others FOC and I'll tell you what I think.;-)
Jimmy2 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Sorry to hear the bad review Rob as these are pretty rare and most people don't even know these were made as we know why now.
Tom Bolivar Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 » Mike these Piramides showed up in 2000/2001. I think they were gone by » 2002. Why did the Cubans stop producing them by 2002? Simply because they were not good? And heck why did they even start producing them??? Any answers, Rob? No matter how bad the sticks are. They are still an interessting piece of cigar history. ;-)
SmokinLightning Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 "whimpish, one dimensionalm soulless crud" There's a review you'll never read in CA...

stever Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Thanks for the honest review. Is this the same R&J Piramide that is found in the Seleccion Piramide 5 box? I smoked one from '04 and it was surprisingly good, not the best out of the five, but a pleasant surprise.
Jimmy2 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 No Stever these came in 25 count boxes and they were not made in big numbers. I was lucky to smoke one years back and it two was not good very bland. To me if a cigar does not have some flavor young it will not get good even with age.

Afterwards, they found themselves with many left over and boxed them up as a regular release, but obviously if this was the regular quality, they weren't long for this world. Be warned that this is rumor ;-)
Jimmy2 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 pnutbutrsangwich heard the same thing at the time that i smoked mine. But i don't agree as the wrapper does not even come close to an EL wrapper. The wrapper looked just like the R&J Belicosos that i have smoked. But you never know.

It is very unlike Habanos to play around light heartedly with one of their "Big 5" Marques. Something went very wrong with this cigar. Construction and quality issues plagued the release. Wrappers were poor, cigars were plugged and the blend appaling. My theory is that they did a test release as they did with the St Luis Rey Double Corona in the same year. The feed back from the R&J Pirimide was so bad that they did not persist. At the time they had also realised how profitable and in demand the first of the Limited Edition Releases had been. An R&J Pirimide would make a great Edicion Limitada in the future and they put it on the backburner for such a release in 2008/2009.

El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Romeo y Julieta Pirimide 2001 I should lay my cards on the table. I have always hated this cigar. Plagued with construction issues and a lack of self identity, it has always been my least favourite of the Pirimide format. So today while diving through my humidor i came across a box from 2001 containing a dozen or so good looking examples. Most felt tight to the touch but one looked like it had the elements of a good cigar. Construction appeared good with an adequate wrapper and an open foot. Aroma at cold is all fine tobacco and sweet R&J spices. Clipped the cap and tested the draw. Very good and a relief given the track record of this cigar. Taste on the lips was typical R&J charred cherry which I adore. Fired up the foot and received a medium bodied cigar with those stewed cherry notes, touch of mik coffee and some adequate levels of smoke. There was no mistaking this as a Romeo and Julieta. Similar in many respects to the R&J Prince of Wales Churchill. Soft in the mouth, nice aroma but after the first inch it was time to deliver what 6 years of ageing has accomplished. The better aspects of this cigar are now leaving. Gone are the fruity and coffee notes to be replaced by a simple and uncomplex straight light bodied tobacco flavour. If Guantanamera was to produce a Pirimide....this is what it would be. Halfway through and I am considering pitching the cigar now. What a crock of ****. I have had worse cigars....cigars which were bitter and astringent but at least they had the balls to make a statement no matter how misdirected. This R&J believes that mediocrity is sufficient. Not even bloody close. When a great marque like Romeo y Julieta produces a Pirimide it should be a GREAT cigar. Not this piece of whimpish, one dimensionalm soulless crud. I have wasted 90 minutes of my life. Don't get me wrong .....I have done this many times but mostly enjoyed it :-) This is a disappointing cigar of the highest order. It was always a sows ear and time will not make it a silk purse. If you are in posession of these, smoke one and if you concurr...trade the rest. Time will not help these in any way. 82/100 2/6 Smokerings.
