Ethernut Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Ok so I've been doing a lot of research and enjoying every minute of it. The list below is what I've ordered as my Sampler. I've ordered 2 of each, one for me and one for my Dad. I would not consider either one of us a seasoned smoker. Both of us have been smoking about one a week for about a year. Honestly, We are going to be looking for silky smoothness initially. So from my list, based on my taste expectations, which ones will be safe to jump right in and smoke and which ones will need to rest in the Humi before I get an accurate idea of their potential (and for how long). The end result here is that I want to understand what I like so I can buy in larger quantity in a week or two. I hope like heck that I don't like all of them or I'll be in trouble.. :-D Thanks all! HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.2 JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 BOLIVAR BELICOSOS FINOS RAMON ALLONES SPECIALLY SELECTED MONTECRISTO NO.2 MONTECRISTO NO.4 COHIBA SIGLO VI Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 PARTAGAS SERIE D NO.4 ROMEO Y JULIETA PETIT JULIETAS PUNCH PUNCH BOLIVAR CORONAS JUNIOR PARTAGAS SHORTS
BigSlick Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Most beleive it's best to let your cigars "rest" for at least 2 weeks optimally 1 month before smoking to acclimate from the trip. Saying that here are my recs: » HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.2 » JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 » BOLIVAR BELICOSOS FINOS » RAMON ALLONES SPECIALLY SELECTED » MONTECRISTO NO.2 » MONTECRISTO NO.4 » COHIBA SIGLO VI » Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 » PARTAGAS SERIE D NO.4 » ROMEO Y JULIETA PETIT JULIETAS » PUNCH PUNCH » BOLIVAR CORONAS JUNIOR » PARTAGAS SHORTS Too hell with it ! Order them all, you can't go wrong! :-D
wp2 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Let those babies rest in your humidor for 6 weeks before you indulge. Fire up the Epi 2s first, IMHO.
El Presidente Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Let them rest in your humidor at 65% RH for a minimum of a month. They need a little time to regain their composure after such a long trip ;-)

I don't want to wait that long!!!! ;-) I guess that'll give me time to weed down my NC's to make room for my lasciviousness. Ugh.. :-P The Ether..
Ethernut Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 May I ask why 65% RH as opposed to 70%? My bead setup is currently 70%, would you recommend a change to 65% beads? Appreciate the help!

Gryphon Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Listen to the advice...Drop your RH to 65% and wait at least a month. (No its not easy) Start Here: HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.2 JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 MONTECRISTO NO.2 MONTECRISTO NO.4 Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 PARTAGAS SHORTS Nice selection you have got. Enjoy.
jaylax5 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Ethernut, I went through the exact same experience a few months ago. I ordered a nice sampler and then was instructed to wait. IMHO, you really need to wait the 4-6 weeks. I smoked one or two out of the sampler only after a week or two and they were not as good as the ones I smoked after 6 weeks of waiting. Now that I've got a little more knowledge and experience, I really am more patient because the reward is much sweeter. Enjoy and cheers. FWIW...try to get some aged product too and a new credit card with a secret shipping and billing address. :-D

This is a highly debated topic, but IMO, 70% is too high. I have found that keeping my Oasis tuned between 65-67% is about ideal for me. When you start approaching the 70% mark, I begin to worry about the fuzzy stuff.

But, general concensus is on par with your findings. I will be buying more beads, (probably tonight) to adjust for 65%. Thanks again
shrink Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Of the smokes you have, one will be ready to enjoy sooner than the others... The Partagas Serie D No. 4. Recent issues have been superb, and very, very approachable for such a young cigar.
