BigSlick Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Alllright.. I was gonna let the Cohina go in the thread title, but then you called it a Lanero in your review! What wine(s) were you pairing this Cohina Lanero with??? :-D
shrink Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Nice review, Rob. I still haven't seen any '06 Lanceros. Do us a favor and smoke the first one you can get your hands on, OK?

habanohal Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I have a box from 2000, which I have smoked 5 so far and none with tight draws or plugs. By far some of the tastiest tobacco I have ever tasted. Have you smoked these with age on them Rob?? If so , how do they compare to recent production? Or can I say if there is a big flavor differance between aged and the recent production?
servebig Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Who wouldn't trade their literacy for Rob's lifestyle? Another great review.
Shooter Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 The '01's I got from Rob were just sublime. Very neat cigar to have in the collection.
El Presidente Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 » Alllright.. I was gonna let the Cohina go in the thread title, but then you » called it a Lanero in your review! What wine(s) were you pairing this » Cohina Lanero with??? :-D I have been sprung.....I paired it with a nice Italian Moscatto. As for comparisons with earlier vintages (2000/2001) I think it will hold up. The honeyed nuances will shine through. However right now, I would reach for a great 2001 before the 2005 only for that extra complexity. Also looking forward to the first of the 06's. Will review when available.
tandblov Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 » One hour and 20 minutes of entertainment. Holy Moly! It takes me at least 2 hours to smoke a lancero! Granted, I am a slow smoker and absolutely love the lancero, but I cant imagine it going so fast. BTW, have I said that I want your job prez!!!
genevapics Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Is that correct? The 06 Lancero's are not available or haven't yet shipped from Cuba? That is interesting. Man I love this cigar. It has worked it's way into my heart as my favorite cigar. The grass, cream, bean and tobacco flavors all intertwined. Just a great way to spend a few hours. Nice review Rob.
Quint Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Life is tough huh Rob..Thanks for your review very informative as always...
Cam Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Very nice, the lancero is an amazing cigar, always great tabacco, but someone tell me what laptop Rob has, I want one?
cigardawg Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I've a box of this exact box code...put down for much later. Methinks I'll have to try one soon after this review.
shortsqueeze Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 "Man I love this cigar. It has worked it's way into my heart as my favorite cigar." Mine too. I am working on a box with the same code as Rob's and they are superb.
connoiseur29 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 My 2001's are sleeping comfortably along with their fundadore's siblings.

Of course, I've never met the man despite wanting to do so. He's supposed to have been a great conversationalist. I'll have to throw a single in with my first Czar shipment when I finally get around to it.:-P
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 I love the Laguito No 1 vitola. Elegant, distinguished, imperious. This morning there was trouble in paradise. Clouds on the horizon which meant that Easter was upon us and everyone knows that it will rain on the Easter Weekend just as you pitch your tent. It fines up on Tuesday as you head back to work :crying: So today I treated myself to a Cohiba Lanero with my morning coffee. Nice looking cigar. Classic Cohiba hue, good construction in terms of bunching but the wrapper was a tad uneven. Oil level was adequate. Smell at cold was woody with quality tobacco. Clipped the end and the test draw revealed no problems. Cool dry grass on the palate. If I was a rich farmer I would pitch the stalk of grass from the corner of my mouth and insert one of these. Gently...ever so gently torched the foot and allowed the cigar to get into a slow cool burn. Medium body, viscous mouthfeel with dry grass, roasted nuts and pure Vuelta abajo tobacco. Hints of caramelized sugar at the inch mark and the cigar evolved into espresso coffee and light pastry. The grassiness ever present. The established flavour profile continued past the halfway mark before introducing some pepper notes which were absent until now. This would have been a great cigar with a fine Cognac or single malt. The pepper and cream reminded me of a good smooth black stout. Just when I thought it would finish this way, the cigar evolved in the last third back to the grassy, honey notes from which it began. One hour and 20 minutes of entertainment. A cigar which will age well as it has all the ingredients to do so. The pepper introduction in the last third is not something I have experienced before in the Lancero and it may have been an aberration. If it was.....I thoroughly enjoyed it. 90/100 5/6 smokerings.
