JMH Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I'm looking for a nice bottle of rum, and I'm sure there are a few people who could point me in the right direction with a few suggestions. The thing is, I don't drink it straight, so a premium rum is not in order. I just went through a bottle of HC7 and liked that, but I thought it would be interesting to see what else is out there. Speaking of rum, whatever happened to rumrouge, I haven't seen him around in a while.
habanablue Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 If you're not after top shelf stuff, I was getting plastered on Captain Morgan 'Spiced Gold' in South Africa and loved it so much I brought some back Duty Free. Great stuff! about $30 from liquor shops.

bassman Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Gossling Black Seal, from Bermuda, mixes well, tastes great on it's own, and is not very expensive.
Colt45 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 » Speaking of rum, whatever happened to rumrouge, I haven't seen him around » in a while. I've thought the same thing from time to time. I don't think he liked you Australian guys too much..... always calling him rumrouge instead of rumrogue. Also, I second the Black Seal - my usual drinker.

If you like HC7, you might want to try some of the other Cuban rums if you can get your hands on them. Ron Caney is, in many people's opinions, even better than Havana Club. Other's I'd recommend that I really like are Rhum Barbancourt 8YO, Flor de Caña 7 YO, Zaya, and for a change of piece, I like a black Navy rum, like Cruzan Black Strap of Gosling's (I like them with some ginger ale and lime juice...very refreshing and tasty!).
Guest boss hogg Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I'd say that for a moderately priced white rum, Don Q blows its Puerto Rican competitor Bacardi away. Mixed with Coke or Pepsi, it is smoother than....well, I'll get my mind out of the gutter and just say it's smooth. One of my Venezuelan friends says that Diplomatico and Santa Teresa are some of the best dark rums.

Zaya (Guatemala) Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 anos (Guatemala) Pyrat XO (carribean) Just tried some Flor De Cano & anos (Nicaragua) And was suprised not bad for 4 dollar rum. (bought in Honduras) These are some of my favorite rums (also enjoy HC7)
Wiley Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 There's a lot of great rum to be had. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Ministry of Rum: http://ministryofrum.realnets.com/
JMH Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks for all the names guys. I'll head to the bottle-o this weekend and see what I can track down.
Fia Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 » » Zaya (Guatemala) » Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 anos (Guatemala) » Pyrat XO (carribean) » I agree with the three above. However, Pyrat has been losing some of its quality lately. I have an unopened bottle and hoping that they cleaned their act up. It is a toss up for me between the Zaya and RZ. If Im in the mood for something sweeter, I go for the Zaya. Of course, HC15 is awesome!:-D
