culebra Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I have had this problem on late 2003 boxes of corona gorda's and robusto's. Even some Monte 2's. Have other people experienced this? Are 2004 boxes the same? Great work on the forum Rob. Nice to have a Habanos specific forum to build on
El Presidente Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 The good news is that the problem has eased progressively through 2004. The introduction of the draw machines had the effect of some rollers underfilling to ensure they met the requirements. The factory's are aware of the problem and have worked with the rollers to ensure that the correct balance is achieved. I think you will see it almost eliminated entirely in late 2004/2005 stock.
Ben Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Yep I've come across this lately just the other day I had a Partagas that was almost impossible to smoke, much to my disgust. A chunk of filler actually fell out.
HawaiiBill Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Yea, convention wisdom seems to be that draw machines played a big part in this problem. Personally I must have been lucky though. Because I never had a full box with this problem and perhaps only 10-12 singles at MOST. Primarily with mag46 and a couple PSD4's.
CastleCrest Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I do think it is important for Cuba to deal with plugged cigars. I can't count how many cigars I have had to cut just to get a draw! A small amount of underfilled sticks on the march toward not having so many plugged cigars is a good thing IMHO! CC

I have been fortunate not to incounter too much of the underfilling. I do so enjoy a fine Habanos that has just a little bit of resistance in the draw, but nothing near a tight draw. Looking forward to the continued improvements in quality this year.
Bernard Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Hi Could this perhaps be partly a result of stretch tobacco?
El Presidente Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 ....seriously...do we have to explain everything to a kiwi !LOL! Welcome aboard. Just highlight and delete the previous post. It is usefull to delete it after you have finished your own post before posting it to the forum. That way you can refer to it.
El Presidente Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Hi Bernard. Look forward to catching up at the Habanos festival. We are at the Nacional. Go to the bar ;-) I don't think Stretch Tobacco is the problem as the majority of cigars out of cab or box are well rolled. Just those damn 1/2 dozen which somewhat put you off. Hopefully it is a thing of the past. What suprised me was how underfilled they were....if you were looking for it you couldn't miss it.
kiwi cigar smoker Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Thank's for the help in posting:-P What is stretch tobacco???

Kayslay Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Had a box of Cohiba Genios severely underfilled ?
