Given my luck with Partagas, I bypassed this one when recently acquiring some

small cigars. I imagine though, that I'll eventually give it a try.

Thanks for the candid review.

Sucks that they are not on yet. It was also nice to see the New Partagás Band on a cigar. I like the detail they have improved them with. As for the smoke, just too damn young to be smoking IMHO.

I used to think I liked 'em fresh. What did I know? Now I've got a cab of '04's and they're just starting to turn 'on'. What a great little smoke!

Me too, the best shorts I've ever had have all been 2yrs or older. I tested a couple this weekend from an '06 cab and they just really didn't do it for me, from what I remember they actually seemed better fresh than they do now so it's time to play the waiting game until '08 to try them again.

I have 2 50 cabs from Sep 03 laying down. I really want to like this cigar..nearly everyone raves about these in Cab form. To my palate when young these are near unsmokeable, Pepper and tannins overwhelm any and all flavors... now at the 3 year year mark they still have a harshness/pepper to them that does not do it for me. I can wait but I have a sneaking suspicion that I may just not be into the partagas line.....compared to say a well aged Bolivar PC which is my benchmark when comparing marcas.

I will take all of those nasty little sticks. If anyone has cabs, not dress boxes.I would be very happy to take them off your hands for proper disposal.:-D

I had this happen to me too with some from January 06. They need some time. However, i think there is a lot of promise. let's hope my intuition is right...

I have a Cab from 05 that is really harsh. I smoked one last night, enjoyed it mind you, but very tannic. It started to run about half way down, but managed to correct itself. I certainly hope that this cab gets better....which I know it will.

This Partagas Short came from an open cab of OCT 06.

The short has been a member perenial favourite for years and has generally been of consistant quality until 2005 and early 2006 when it lost its way. Construction has been its downfall and by construction the major complaint we have had is chronic underfilling which robbed this cigar of its core flavour. There is little doubt that this cigar as suffered from overproductio and it has been heartening to see an improvement in mid to late 06.

This example was well filled and generally well constructed.

Smell at cold is all Cuban tobacco with chicken coup straw. Cuban cut the end and found a good draw with pimento spice on the lips.

Torched the end and the little half corona was full bodied and had the kick of a mule. Very un-Short like. It relatively quickly found a more moderate balance but still delivered copious amounts of pepper through the nose. The palate delivery however was more well mannered akin to dipping mums home made shortbread in thick Turkish black coffee.

By the halfway point this Partagas Short was losing its way. It was confused and fighting an internal battle between the powers of good....complexity and balance and the powers of evil...bitterness.

I slowed the draw down and purged the cigar by blowing through it and this led to a more medium bodied cigar with elements of bread and black coffee but the outlying bitterness always cast its shadow.

Into the final third and the battle was almost lost. White pepper and sump oil bitterness dominated with all redeeming features now gone. The cigar had given itself to the dark side and I had lost my patience. Perhaps a good cigar to lie down for a period of time as it has the leaf integrity to make it in the medium to long hall bit I would not try a cigar from this particular cabinet for another 10 months to a year.

84/100 now. 88/100 12 months.
