phxkev Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I just heard that CA awarded their Cigar of the Year to the Bolivar Royal Corona with 94 points. Personally, I enjoyed the Cohiba Robusto, the Siglo II and the PLPC more than the Bolivar RC. Reading past posts, I think the consensus on this board is that the Bolivar RC is too inconsistent. And I respect the educated palates of the dedicated aficionados on this board. So..... which cigar gets your vote?
log1k Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Is the Royal Corona from '06 ? Either way I think the best smokes I had in '06 were Cohiba Robustos, BBFs, Monte 2s, and H. Upmann Conn. #1s. My cigar of the year was a Monte 2 from '02....outstanding.
habanohal Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I would say ew San Cristabol line. Cant pick 1 because they all taste the same. For the 06 Boli, I found it pretty BLAH compared to previous years,
Miami101 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 For me my Fav Cigar was ROMEO Y JULIETA CAZADORES: It was rich, and full body. The price was right, and for the age smoke very well. I have to admit I’m not the expert like other guys on FOH, but from what I have smoke so far these are my fav’s. Also JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 was great….it start off with a nice spice and move into light notes of leather, and maybe lighter hints of coffee. Another great one was H.UPMANN MAGNUM 46: as the name suggest it was strong, and delivered a strong blow of taste that could take a man down for the count. It was full bodied with hints of coffee & creams a little on the heavy side. I made the mistake of smoking this one before dinner, and I had not eaten all day.
Colt45 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 » So..... which cigar gets your vote? I'd have to go with the Bolivar Coronas Gigantes. The ones I've had over the past year have all been very, very good.

BigSlick Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I agree with CA. My box of early 06 RC's are fantastic.
Professor Twain Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 In general I have found that I prefer cigars with some age to the 06s, even if the 06s are showing potential. The best 06 cigar I smoked was a Ramon Allones Gigantes I got from Rob as a single (at least I assume that was an 06, got two singles in December). I know that these may get even better with time but both that I smoked were fantastic, great RA fruity type flavor, and then monster strength down the stretch. Never had an aged one but I loved this right off the truck.
bassman Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 If you're speaking of cigars produced in 06, of the ones I've tried the best have been SLR Serie A, Montecristo #2 (best Monte #2 I ever smoked) and Bolivar Coronas Gigantes, all from early 06. I've smoked a couple BRCs from FEB 06 & to my taste they are not ready. Those I have from ENE 05 are much more pleasing.
Taino Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I think The juan lopez '06 line was exceptional.
El Presidente Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Early BRC (Jan/Feb) were exceptional. Fell away throughout the year which is unfortunate. The finest cigar that we smoked in 2006....by a considerable margin....was the 2006 Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limidada (see review section). Nougat, chocolate, apricot.....immense complexity and still with enough rough edges + sheer power to give immense confidence as to the ageing potential of what will become one of the cigars of the decade.

I should have listed it along with my other three that I enjoyed this one more than the Bolivar RC.

I haven't tried one although I picked up a box of these. Waiting for a special occasion and letting them rest and age a little. But I am curious as all hell! Do you think any more of the 2006 Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limidada will ever become available?
El Presidente Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 We have plenty of stock but I am hesitant to release them in case I can afford to horde them all for myself Seriously, my top 5 cigars since 2000 (which I could live on for the rest of my life) have been: 1. Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limitada 2006 1. Cohiba Double Corona Edicion Limitada 1. St Luis Rey Double Corona 2001 4. Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 (2001/2003/2006) 5. Cohiba Robusto 2001/2006 Of those 5, the Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limitada 2006 has been the best in terms of flavour complexity and strength at the point of release. Just my opinion. I know Smithy and ken share a similar viewpoint on the Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limitada 2006. Keep in mind the original release of Cohiba Pirimides Edicion Limitada 5 years ago were crap and still are in my opinion.
12stones Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Can't say that I agree with CA on many of their opinions. As it is, I'd say that the cigar of the year for me was an 04 Siglo VI. But, more importantly and even more dangerously, all this thread does is add to my "must buy" list.
Miami101 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I guess I have to pick up 006 Cohiba Pirimide Edicion Limidada: Any know where I can get some, one, to test drive. :crying:

Jack Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 The Bolivar Libertadores surprised me quite a bit. Exceptional cigar.
cls515 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 » 4. Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 (2001/2003/2006) I'm intrigued. I've never tried any before. I'm a Partagas/Cohiba nut.
Tone_NY Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Now that totaly blows as this has been my cigar of preference for years. Now the price will just balloon!

shrink Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 People have nominated some really good '06 cigars: The Boli RC's from early '06 were simply delicious. Cazadores have been impressive, and surprisingly approachable. Cohiba Siglo II's and Robustos have been really strong and flavorful. and the Juan Lopez No. 2 may be the best JL2 ever. But for my money, and considering its triumphant return from mediocrity... The Montecristo No. 2 is my candidate for the Best Cigar of 2006!

Colt45 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 » I think it's somewhat limited to cigars produced in 2006 I took it to mean favorite smoked in '06, regardless of vintage - go figure
log1k Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 In light of CA's pick as the top smoke I decided to reach for a Boli RC from early 2006......I must say they actually may have picked it right this time...who knew they could do it ! :-D
