shrink Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 From Zero to Satisfied in 30 Minutes... I’ve owned a few sports cars in my time, and they sure are a lot of fun. They’re small, fast, powerful, and they get you from point A to point B in a way that leaves you smiling and saying “Wow” under your breath. Well, the Partagas Serie du Connaisseur No. 3 just might be the world’s finest sports cigar. It’s small (35 ring x 5-5/8), fast (burned one in less than 30 minutes), and powerful (the size concentrates all the Partagas spice and flavors). It’s an experience that grabs your attention from the moment of ignition, and never lets go. The body was firm and smooth to the touch, resplendent in its hand-rubbed finish. As I settled in, I was enveloped by the sweet scents of aged wood and tanned leather. I fired it up, and was greeted by sharp, fiery notes from the smoky exhaust. Brrrrraaap, brrrrraaap! This baby can run hot, so you better go easy on the gas. And we were away, as my No. 3 took me on a brief, but utterly thrilling run through its paces. This was no leisurely ride around the neighborhood. I’ll admit, I was reluctant to put on the brakes, so I smoked this baby all the way to a final burn-out. The flavors, strength, and peppery spice never let up. “Wow”, I said to myself, grinning ear to ear. “What a blast!”
Professor Twain Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Great review, Shrink. What year was the model that you road tested? Any xperience with vintage models? Any comments on 2006 models or have you only looked at them in the show room?
El Presidente Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Great Review I smoke more Connie 3's than anything else. No other cigar has the ability to caress me into a dreamlike state with dark chocolate and toasted tobacco.....or bitchslap me around with spice, power and nicotine which often leads me to find my breath and a glass of water. Including 2006, I have not witnessed a blend change in these. Up to 5 years of age you are living with a dominatrix. You sometimes may not like her, it can hurt, you can feel embarrassed....BUT YOU KEEP COMING BACK. 5 Years + and the Dominatrix becomes a Mistress. Richer (you made her so), lush, more curves, more cultured. Gone is the leather of the whip and the eye watering spices. Approach her and you will know what hedonistic pleasure is. You are lost in the bottomless crevasse lined with chocolate liqueur, dried raisins and black truffles. You want more and more and more but you know that to oblige will only diminish the sense of pure bliss. I like these

greenpimp Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I love this cigar. Don't know if I could smoke on in 30 minutes, though. Mine have smoked more like an hour.
cigardawg Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Great review! Love the SdC no. 3. Easily my favorite "small" smoke.
Ginseng Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Fantastic review, Bob! The SDC3 are truly something special. Rob, great metaphor. ;-) So what cigar would you classify as a hedonistic, abrasive, highly concentrated 20-something? :-D Wilkey
aitker Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I must agree whole heartedly with this review and all the follow ups. It is a damn fine cigar. I am inexperienced in the cigar world and when I smoked my first connaisseur No. 3 I was totally taken by suprise at the sweetness and richness of flavour, it was not what I expected at all.

No other cigar makes me feel like the Connie 3. I love her although she has knocked me to the floor more than once. I have experienced all of her moods and love them all, even the ones which hurt. If I was to have one cigar for the rest of my life in unlimited quantities, then I would say without hesitation the Connie 3 is it.
genevapics Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 » If I was to have one cigar for the rest of my life in unlimited » quantities, then I would say without hesitation the Connie 3 is it. Rob, what is it about this cigar that makes you turn to it so often? Is it because it is a very good smoke that can be enjoyed in under an hour? Curious minds would like to know.:-|

Is » it because it is a very good smoke that can be enjoyed in under an hour? » Curious minds would like to know.:-| Hard question. I love the size. I find it fits a busy lifestyle to a "T" It is more than that however. I demand complexity in a cigar, I don't particularly care if the cigar is mild, medium or full bodied....but it MUST have Flavour complexity. Connie 3 and I go back a long way together. I have had here in various years and various moods. I have seen her aged with her silky smoothness and rich chocolate notes. I have seen her young and rampant with the temper of a Chilli where she smacks me around the head with spice, nicotine and bad manners. Whatever mood she is in she entertains but I can seldom read her. Connie 3 is a kindred spirit. If I met her at University in my youth I would have married her.

Is » it because it is a very good smoke that can be enjoyed in under an hour? » Curious minds would like to know.:-| Rob will tell you that it has a lot to do with, flavours, layers and hot chicks! But the truth is that it is a short enough smoke that he can enjoy while Lisa is downstairs working. Any longer and Rob would get caught during one of Lisa's inspections of Rob's work upstairs. Gee I do miss them Connie 3s, the ideal way the ease into the arvo. Save a couple for me Rob I will be there in a couple of weeks
Colt45 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 » .........the ideal way the ease into the arvo. » So, if you "ease into" the "arvo" with something small in size, does that mean you work your way up to something larger by the end of the "arvo"?
