Guest boss hogg Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 If you could buy a box of either of these at the same price, which would you get? I've had a RA 898 but am wondering what the flavo(u)r profile of the RyJ EL robusto is. It's so hard to do a Google search on these given the various abbreviations of them. I'm wondering how the RyJ have aged. Thanks!
habanohal Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Havent had the RA 898 But I have 14 left of the RYJ. They are smokin great right now. If only I would of bought more than 1 box All these years and I have been able to resist and smoke 11 so far
bassman Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Can't help you with the RyJ, but must mention that for whatever reason, my 02 RA898s are much tastier than the 01s.

Steve, this fact applies only to you. At some point in the last few years, you passed the point of no return. Instead of "getting better", you were only getting older. So, any cigars that have been swept into your psychic vortex are also only getting older, not better. It's a shame, but those are the facts of life, dude! P.S. It is unlikely that any RyJ Robusto EL's you find on the net are authentic. There are some good fakes around, though!
josie67 Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 RA 898V ALL the way. The '02's I have are smoking phenomenally well.
kluck Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 For me hands down no ifs, ands, or buts, RA 8-9-8 but I don't like the EL's that much or their thick wrappers so it could just be me. ;-)

I dont normally like the RyJ profile, but then again, the best cigar I've ever smoked is a RyJ EL 2000 (rare Prominente IIRC). RA 898 is a discontinued Lonsdale, isnt it? I'd probably get something else than any of these 2 for the money! :-D Like a cab of PLPC I just saw available somewhere... :-)

The R&J Short Churchill of 06 giver the LE R&J Robusto a run for its money.
Tampa1257 Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 In my humble opinion, the Ramón Allones 898 is the clear choice to make. The flavors are rich, fruity, sweet nectar spice and bordering on elegant. Hands down winner in my opinion.

What Tampa said.:-D RA 898 is one of the best cigars out there IMHO.
