Oh and how woefully bad the construction on the Estupendos ended up being...

I know. Looking at the secondary market people are dumping them left, right and centre.  You can't give them away.  Construction ended up being no worse than any other Churchill.

Thanks for bumping the thread. I keep forgetting to dig out those estupendos. I'm going to get one now and have it tonight.

I agree. I've been going back and forth on this one, but I just realized I can't live without. Email sent to Lisa for 1 dress box.

Dress boxes was incorrect It is SLB 25's and SLB 50's. I will post some pictures as soon as I receive some next week.

On the general pricing issue I have received plenty of emails asking how pricing is determined. Let me do a little cut and paste exercise:

Tobacco Weights:

Double Corona : 17.86 kilo of tobacco per 1000 cigars

Churchill: 15.07

Pirimide: 14.26

Belicoso: 12.45

Robusto: 11.66

Corona Gorda 11.41

Lonsdale 10.8

Corona: 9.21

Petit Corona: 8.46

Perla : 5.91

Keep in mind that the formulae I used (comparing PL Regional Release ot RA Estupendo Regional Release) was no hard and fast rule. While Tabacuba uses the weight of tobacco in determining it's pricing to Habanos s.a. there are other factors for consideration including difficulty in rolling, packaging, blend etc etc.

Weight of tobacco is a prime determinant. From the wholesale lists, the % in pricing between vitola's is pretty standard. There is little more than a few % difference in pricing within vitola's. The exceptions are in those cigars which are produced in small quantities ie SLD DC's are priced more at a wholesale level than other DC's as Por Larranaga Petit Corona's are priced more than other PC's. Cohiba’s are generally 30% more than standard Marques. Sir Winstons are priced higher than normal Churchills due to packaging and positioning.

The final determinant is exclusivity of the cigar as in Regional Editions. Without parallel importers to worry about, the regional distributor can price more liberally and impose strict conditions upon re-sale. In short, they will get what they can get.

There is a total ban in selling Regional Editions to retailers in other markets.

Good news is that I have received my allocation numbers this morning and we will be able to meet the majority of our backorders. There will be a follow up shipment mid November to finalise the backorders and any new orders. That will wrap it up. By the end of November we will have seen out last.

» It is a new blend in a classic RA style. I have been told the cigar is

» exceptional but I have also heard the same about the Punch Super Robusto.

Hey Rob, any chance you may be able to elaborate on this at all? Who told you about the blend and what experience they have? It would be awesome if these come to be classics like the Coronas.:-P

When I was discussing the process for new cigars (check the classic thread board) the example given to me was the process in determining the blend of the new Regionals for PCC although I used the R&J Short Churchill as an example.

By the time I return from Singapore next week, I should be in a position to taste test and do a photo shoot on these puppies :-)

Thought I would bump up this old thread I ran across from 12 years ago.  Everyone anticipating the first REs for Asia Pacific, an explanation of pricing from El prez, knowing what the next years release would be.  Fascinating discussion here—to me at least.

P.S.  Do old thread bumps count for the FOHnies :D
