I just got back from the Clapton show here in DC.

Robert Cray opened for him with a short 45 minute set that was good until his anti war crap.

Clapton was awesome. He has two guys playing guitar with him. One is a lefty who I swear was playing a Les Paul strung backwards or upside down on some numbers. The other guy, Trucks is outrageous. Great slide. Amazing guitar player. Even Eric seemed to be impressed.

Two keyboard players.

Eric, can I date your backup singers? :-D

A coupla Belvedere Martinis with a 98 Upmann Conne 1 before a Kona rubbed steak dinner withe a bottle of Turley Zinfindel and a buca and espresso to finish before the show.

Finishing off with a PSD 03 El and more vodka just to stay in line. ;-)

Eric Clapton is just unbelievable in concert. What the man can do with a Guitar is just phenominal. I'm a huge Clapton fan love his old stuff from Cream to his new stuff. The man hasn't lost a thing in my book!!

The lefty playing the Les Paul and Fender Backward is Doyle Bramhall II. He is an up and coming blues player and seems like Eric has taken him under his wing.

when i lived in london in the mid/late '80's, i ended up in control of a box at the royal albert hall (long story). hence i got to any of the concerts i wanted for a year or two.

clapton was one. it was his first for 20 year (certainly at the hall and i think from what i was told, london, so it was pretty popular). i was told by one guy that he was wary about attending as apparently at the one 20 years earlier, clapton had turned up hours late and so wasted he couldn't play.

not so this night. he was fantastic. one of the greatest concerts i have ever seen. and there were, not that they said a word all night, a few familar faces on stage. he had phil collins on drums and mark knopfler as his 'insert technical musical term for next guitarist' for the entire thing. sensational.
