Rob is famous

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Well, I might have overdone it a little, but I just finished reading an article in the European Cigar Cult Journal (ECCJ) autumn edition 2006 where Rob, amongst others, is named. And you know, a lurid headline never fails.

The article

It is about cigar culture down under. A hand full of merchants and the general manager of PCC get to state their opinion or view of cigar smoking in Australia. Rob says that cigar smoking these days is for every one and somehow stands for the social equality of Australia. If I may add personally, this is a statement I much like. The numbers named of consumption (1 Mio. in a country with 20 Mio. inhabitants) are very impressive. Further more it tells of the strict smoking rules which I was not aware of. The reading for me was very interesting since I do not really have the chance to be in contact with that part of the world (only here in this forum). Keep up the smoke, mates!

The magazine

I don’t know if you guys down under get to read this magazine. It comes originally out of Austria and turned bilingual from only German to English and German a few years ago to obviously attract the Americans. Once in a while you get really new or additional information, even if a regular visitor to cigar internet sites. Every issue contains a cigar tasting of some sort. And here in the German speaking part of Europe those tastings are a bit of a running gag since they always use very “flowery” descriptions for the cigars. Apart from the occasional interesting info and the tastings it mostly tells about new products (some info about pipes too). And sometimes I can’t help but noticing that the best scoring cigars have the biggest add in the magazine too… But hey, everyone needs to earn some money in order to bring some bread on his table. The tastings by the way are organized by one of Zurich’s, Switzerland best cigar merchants.

Regards,

Tom

Sam, maybe I wasn't clear on that. I liked the article very much. It really made it possible for me to see a part of the cigar smoking world where I do not have daily access.

And the fact that my first ECCJ issue is from 1998 (I do collect about everthing I can get my hands on ;-)) stands for itself. Flowery descriptions and big adds or not...

Regards,

Tom
