Ken Gargett Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I’ll be interested to see what the general opinion is on these, surely the most ubiquitous of all Cubans. I can’t imagine that any cigar smoker has not tried a few at some stage. I used to try and keep a small stock as a reserve or for when time was short but seem to have fallen out of the habit. Tried them again in Havana at the Festival - they provided us all with a box of four. It has an extra Habanos band but I believe it is the same old smoke. I was a little disappointed, remembering them as having more interest. They looked good, with a slightly oily, not too brown wrapper. Draw and burn were fine. There was a mix of dark choc and slightly woody notes but for me, the finish was a little out of kilter and a bit too hot. 85. I found the Monte 4's in Havana to be woefull including the ones handed out at the dinners. Why? ...buggered if I know. My experience with current Monte 4's (export) is that they are the best since 1997...rich, oily with classic Monte coffee and cream flavour profile. 89
froghair Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 the monte #4 was one of the first cubans i ever smoked, but for some reason they just dont do anything for me......that is except the "A"
Mel Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 surely the » most ubiquitous of all Cubans. The Monte #4 are not a part of my current rotaion. I do like them but prefer the Boli PC or Sig II at this time. This is a GOOD SMOKE but it ain't no Sig6, RA Gigantes, or SLRDC. I have found that they make great gift cigars to special friends especially if they have never smoked a Cuban. The Montecritso name is easily recoginized, the size will not overwhelm a newby and the flavor is not overpowering. The price is right also, can't afford to give away to many "A"s.
tmos Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I have a few but have yet to try them. I love the 2's and 5's but have heard about the inconsistencies in the 4's and with how good the Boli PC's are I haven't had much need for them.
ALB Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 I'm a bit of a fan of these, mainly because it's a bit of an in-between smoke, not to small, not too big. Had one over Easter & it is very smooth, but I imagine any cigar connoiseurs who like a bit more oomph might find it dissappointing. Good to have a few just for when you feel like something nice & easy to smoke. Probably go for a siglo 3 for a bit more character. Al
benzig Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Probably go for a siglo 3 for a bit more character. I must agree, as a newbie the montecristo was a name to start on but the siglo is my preference
Tampa1257 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 The last I smoked were early 2004s. They were creamy, and had the cocoa and slight mocha flavors. I normally keep some around as a change of pace cigar or when I want a milder shorter smoke. Tampa
rdk Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 Smokeing my last one from an early 2004 box this morning with a good cup of fresh ground coffee. A great way to start the day this box has been excellent. I went through them way too quickly.:-(
josie67 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 The box I have from 12/03 is smoking VERY well. All the tang you would expect from the MC4 is there in SPADES. Whenever I go out, the MC4 is ALWAYS in my travel humidor. Even though they are made by the trillions, to me they represent the finest in consistency. Mario

A little mider than my fav, the Boli pc, and good for a change of pace.
dogbreath Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 All the Monte 4s from 2003 have been great! Smooth medium body with large volumes of smoke. Tastes of cocoa and coffee are prominent. Those that I have had from September 2004 however need a little more time in the humi. I also noticed that the 04s were a little spongier. The shorter Boli's and RA's are great too as an alternative if you like a fuller body cigar. :-)

Although they are a good cigar I still prefer the MC4. It could be the box or my taste buds! Cheers and enjoy! Phil
Spud2 Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I've only tried the Monte #4 from 04 or fresher boxes, but find them enjoyable for a quick fix when short on time. :-P
ckile2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Wow the last post was from 05. I got some and let them sit for a week. It was a good mild smoke and I liked the size. They could use a little time in the humi.
NMJoe Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I received an HQ box about a week ago. I'm letting them sit for some time before I light one off.
