Tom,

This is the first time that Habanos s.a has cut a line which was the benchmark cigar of the Marque (i.e Tainos). It has until now been a steadfast policy.

Sales is the new policy. If the market won't buy it....they will not produce it :-|

I hate the idea that there won't be any room for "hidden gems".

Rob I am so glad to hear this news(BFS). Please send me a list of the 25 and 30 year old aged stock that has not been sold from these slow moving lines. The prices should be real cheap since no body wants it.

Oh!! there is none??? Good then tell them (habanos sa) to kiss my ass and don't try to feed me ****.

On a quick check of four or five vendors, only one of them had any of the Partagas or Bolivar coronas available older than 2005. (Some 2002 Partagas Coronas.) So I think there's some shenanigans there to blame it on poor "sales".

I personally suspect these are being D/C'd for the same reason the Partagas lonsdale was. First rate tobacco in a "niche" vitola that they can use for much more expensive things such as the SD4 reserva, PSD ELs, Bolivar Gold Medal, etc. Much higher price per stick and higher profile.

Interesting take on the situation.

I will certainly miss the Tainos and the Monarcas (A/Ts are more pricey, and I'm not sure that much better).

To be fair, you have to look at production numbers. How many Bolivar Corona's have been produced compared to Monte 3? Look at it another way, Monte 3 would outsell Boli corona 100:1 Production numbers reflect this.

It would be 1000:1 when compared to Juan Lopez Corona.

I think you will see both the Boli Corona and Partagas Corona retained in one form or another. Give it another month for more information to come out.

Well its too late now anyway. But I just helped to boost the sale by buying an El Rey del Mundo Tainos from 1999 and a Partagas Churchill de Luxe from 2001.

At least I look at the list a bit more relaxed now. :-|

Just to avoid all confusion with this proposed changes list, I did a little homework to see what is listed as current production by Habanos SA on their website ([link=http://habanos.com/vitolariomarcas.asp?mar=1]Link[/link]). For the most part, it's a very accurate reflection (though there are maybe one or two on there that I haven't seen produced since 2002, such as PL Juanitos), so just so no one starts moaning too soon for bygone vitolas, here's the breakdown....

COMPLETELY GONE (These vitolas will not be produced in any packaging form whatsoever):

Bolivar Coronas

Diplomaticos No.1

Diplomaticos No.3

Hoyo de Monterrey Hoyo Coronas

Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Coronas

Juan Lopez Coronas

Juan Lopez Panetelas Superba

Partagas Churchills de Luxe

Partagas Coronas

Partagas de Partagas No. 1

Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdales

Rafael Gonzalez Panetelas

Rafael Gonzalez Slenderellas

El Rey del Mundo Coronas de Luxe

El Rey del Mundo Tainos

Romeo y Julieta Tres Petit Coronas

Saint Luis Rey Lonsdales

Sancho Panza Bachilleres

Sancho Panza Coronas

Sancho Panza Coronas Gigantes

Sancho Panza Sanchos

Quai d'Orsay Gran Coronas

OTHER PACKAGING FORMS STILL IN PRODUCTION:

Fonseca Cosacos (only 15-count 3-pack boxes gone, still made in 25 dress boxes and 25-count 5-pack boxes)

H. Upmann Monarcas (still produced in 25 aluminum tubes boxes)

Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas (still produced in 25 and 50 cabs)

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo des Dieux (still made in 25 cabs)

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Depute (still made in 25 cabs)

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Maire (still made in 25 cabs)

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Prince (still made in 25 cabs)

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Roi (still made in 25 cabs)

Flor de Cano Petit Coronas (still made in 25 dress boxes)

Flor de Cano Selectos (still made in 25 dress boxes)

Partagas Habaneros (still made in 25 dress boxes)

Punch Churchills (still made in 25 dress boxes and 50 cabs)

Saint Luis Rey Churchills (still made in 25 dress boxes and 50 cabs)

Saint Luis Rey Coronas (still made in 25 dress boxes)

Saint Luis Rey Petit Coronas (still made in 25 dress boxes)

Trinidad Fundadores (still made in 24 boxe, and apparently some kinds of 12 and 25 count boxes too?)

Vegas Robaina Familiares (still made in 25 dress boxes, if the supposed 10-count boxes of tubos ever existed in the first place)

So there you have it. A lot of people freaked out initially and yes, there are a lot of cigars that are now gone for good, but for the most part it seems Habanos has been trimming out their productions of tubos and 50-count boxes...but also getting rid of a lot of lonsdale and coronas sizes too.

Of course, this list isn't perfect, as obviously Habanos still list some stuff in production that either no one has ever seen, hasn't seen in years, or is produced in negliable quantities, but every brand I listed as being saved is supposed to be still produced in either a cabinet or a dress box of 25.

Hope that clears things up a little. :-)

Great list Black Plague. Thank you.

That is very interessting too!

I would have to add the Partagas Churchill de Luxe to that list. Of course. ;-) Maybe it will not become desirable as soon as the others marked on the list but still a very interessting cigar in a few decades.

Tom
