JMH
Wow... that sucks. That's a lot of cigars to cut in one hit, a few really nice ones as well. Are they making any new additions?
cvm4
I still have no clue how to decipher the packaging. But there are some great cigars in that list.
CIGARHead
That list is a bit different than the previous ones. It's a shame that Habanos SA would get rid of Rey del Mundo's flagship - Taino. Whats next my beloved Choix Supreme?! At least the Partagas 898 is NOT on there as previously reported. Rob, will they be adding "new" cigars to make up for these cuts? I guess it's time to stock up. Damn shame.:-(
anacostiakat
Looks like some of these are just box size discontinuations. Like the Fundy cab (50). Is that correct?

DocRKS
The Partagas Coronas to be discontinued !!! Now I know the inmates are running the asylum - This has always represented one of the All Time Classics of Habana Cigars for me - it is probably the cigar that had more to do with me switching to being an almost exclusively Cuban Cigar smoker. A 50 Cab of Partagas Coronas is always one of the gems and one of the staples of my Humidor - I am very disapointed that they would pick to drop this magical cigar. Also - when you look at the cut list and the list of cigars proposed for regular release and Regional release in 2007 - it sure appears that the powers that be do NOT agree that the marketplace needs smaller ring cigars ----there are a LOT of Heavy Hitters on those lists - Ring Guage 50+! greenpimp
That is pretty deep. Some messed up selections, IMO. So bye bye Le hoyo series, most of the SLR line, Partagas and Boli Coronas, and Upmann Monarcas as well as other notables? Damn.

I can't figure out » the packaginb code :-( It's not the whole line... just 50 cabs and 5 pack cardboard packaging that never existed anyway. Also notice the VR Familiars, which aren't being discontinued, just the 10 ct Tubos box which also never existed. It also appear that it's just the Boli Coronas in dress boxes being discontinued. These exist in cabs, correct?
greenpimp
» » » It's not the whole line... just 50 cabs and 5 pack cardboard packaging » that never existed anyway. It shows the 25 AND the 50 box being cut on the des Dieux, Depute, and Roi. The others listed as cut (du Maire and Roi) are only the 25 box. What does that leave, the Dauphin and the Gourmet, the Roi 50? Odd. And will the Monarca still be available in tubes? I wonder...

Black Plague
Rob, are there any channels through which we, the consumer, can protest such cuts? I know the market is against us. They're catering now to the occassional smoker and not even the long-term, devoted connoisseur anymore. I don't really want to just bend over and take it from Habanos/Altadis like this. Sure, we're the "gray market" but I know damn well they're doing this to meet the demand caused by an AMERICAN trend (bigger ring gauges and a distaste for any cigar that isn't big enough to resemble a horse's penis). We need to have a good old fashioned write-in protest campaign!

BP, your post reminded me of this thread: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/board_entr...id=31765#p31765 and this post by Rob in particular: Tampa/Gehrig. I am putting together a plan (August) which I will submit in relation to re-invigorating the thin guage ranks. Let's work together over that time. I have promised to submit a proposal to HSA before the end of the year. Let's aim for October. Very little of what Habanos s.a does is targeted at the US market. The "big is beautiful" phenomenon is just as active in Dubai as it is in Dallas. It is very hard to argue against the sales figures they have. Tom Bolivar
» Partagás » Churchills de luxe cb-uw-c/l-12,13-n-25 » Rey del Mundo » Tainos slb-uw-c/l-12,13-n-25 Hi Rob Thanks for confirming that so fast! You ARE da man with the hot information! Anyone: If I interpret the quote above correctly the Partagas Churchill de Luxe and the El Rey del Mundo Tainos are gone for good after 2006. Do I read the packaging codes correctly? That would rip another hole into my allready "tattered" budget... Regards, Tom
stevejb
From a business standpoint it makes sense. I'm sure most of the cigars cut didn't move very well. I say this because many from the list can be found online with at least 4 years of age. Trimming the fat for Altadis allows them to concentrate on making more of the cigars that sell big for them. There are 3 or 4 smokes on the list I'm sad to see go, but I either have enough of them to last for some time or can pick some more up at decent prices.
