Question about cellophaned boxes

Recommended Posts

I regularly spend Wednesday afternoons at my local tobacconist with 5-6 smoking buddies. One of the guys regularly gets boxes of cigars from one of his sources, and of the 3 or 4 he has given me over the course of a year, I haven't liked any of them. I have looked inside his freshly opened boxes and actually smelled the cigars, and they just do NOT smell right (none of that typical cuban smell all my cigars have). I just keep my mouth shut and nod in agreement when he shos me his cigars. So here is the kicker: He recently got 3 boxes in, and ALL THREE boxes were wrapped in cellophane. Not the individual cigars mind you, but the entire box iteslef was sealed. I have never, in 15 years, seen a sealed box of cubans ever wrapped in cellophane. Rob or anyone else, have you ever seen cuban boxes like this?

I have always maintained that he has been getting fake cigars, but he loves them so much that I don't have the heart to say anything.

Only cardboard packs are wrapped in cellophane.

There is the possibility that the supplier has wrapped the boxes in cellophane ........but it is a long shot answer.

This is always a sensitive subject. Whether or not to tell an acquaintance (as opposed to a good mate who you would tell outright) your suspicions. In your shoes I would give him a few of your cigars (of which he also has bought fromhis source and tried). Let him come to the conclusion himself. It won't take long for the penny to drop.

There are actually alot of vendors that seal the boxes in plastic to keep humidity in.

But that is all I can tell you.

As always, the proof is in the pudding. Just dont get on Robs bad side or he will be sending you the plugged cigars that are meant for Ken :-D :-D :-D :-D

JUst a little humor ;-) ;-)

There are several trusted vendors who do just that: shrink wrap the entire box in cello before shipping. I've gotten 'em like that, and think it's a good idea. Why not? Helps keep the humidity stable while in transit.

BTW. Hal, it's no joke that Rob saves the plugged ones for Ken. He's the only one that can suck a golf ball through a garden hose. Be sure to see the promo for Brokeback Mountain II: The Education of Smithy. Showing now under the reveiw for La Puntas '06!
