Bolivar Coronas Gigantes

Recommended Posts

No codes, but I’m pretty sure ‘05

Contruction: Excellent. Felt great.

Wrapper: Medium toffee in color. SIlky smooth - a real beaut!

Draw: Perfect - just the right resistance. Great smoke volume.

Burned like a champ with no touch-ups necessary.

Taste: This one didn’t change much over the course of the smoke,

so I’ll give a general overview.

The overall characteristic was leather - supple and not tannic or dry, mixed with savory spice.

There was a very nice doughy mouthfeel to the finish - a nice textural element.

At this point, medium in body, though I could definately sense an

underlying power. To be smoked slowly!

There were underlying notes of mince/anise, and while it showed

hints of it’s youth, it was never harsh or bitter - everthing well

integrated.

At the halfway point or so, it reall became full on bolivar leather, and the spice became white pepper.

There was an increase in the sense of power, but overall it stayed medium in body.

In the last quarter, the white pepper really became prevalent!

Overall, a great cigar, with what seems to be awesome potential

with time - and an unexpected treat after a brutally hot and humid day.

They sound tasty and full of promise. I think these CG's are just wicked ass smokes. I could smoke one every day. Some kick your ass and some put on an Upmann Sir Winston front and try and lull you with their suaveness. But they all have that junk in the trunk that we all love secretly deep down. I liken the best ones to a sexy woman with an attitude. Great sex followed up later by some screaming and then sleep. Excellent sleep.

Nice review. These are one of my favorites. Some claim they are to mild and sure they don't have the power of the smaller Boli's but they are spilling over with that full flavored goodness. :-P

I have had some CG's that punched me in the mouth and split my lip. And some that were quite mellow. Every one was full flavored though. They're not like a giant CE or anything but very spicy if you get them at their best. Like smoking chili oil.

This was exactly like the one I smoked - I was thinking of the SW while smoking it!

But definately more oomph, and the potential for lots more.

» The early 03s are pretty impressive now.

I have to agree. I tried one from a May '03 box today.

Construction, draw, and burn were all first rate.

This one started with a heavy duty burst of mouth-watering sweet and sour

saltiness, with an underlying hint of honey sweetness.

It stayed this way for the first inch or so, and though this component subsided

slightly as the smoke progressed, it never went away, and simply became a more

integrated with the other flavors - which were supple leather, and that slight

underlying sweetness, with slight hints of cherry from time to time.

I usually don't wax poetic about these things, but this cigars lulled me into a bit

of a dream state - I forgot about my surroundings and all else for the duration.

To borrow WA's analogy again, this one definately wore the Sir Winston Mask -

A great, great cigar. Grade A all around.
