Alright,

I've got this long (to me) cigar, Its longer than a churchill, I think its 9 inches long.

I don't think I can smoke that in one sitting, and I dont think I even want to, however I don't want to give it away (just yet) because I would like to try it.

Would it ruin the cigar in anyway if I cut it in 1/2? I'd use a Xikar cutter, place it in the middle and chomp the cigar in half. I'd smoke the first half and leave the 2nd half (with cap and label) for later.

Do people do this? Or would it ruin the proposed experience and flavour I would be subjected to with a long smoke?

I'd love to hear your thoughts,

thanks!

To be honest, I'd wait until I had the time to devote to it. If, in the end, you

found it to be too much, you could just smoke as much as you're able, and

chuck the rest.

On the flip side, I don't think it would be a problem cutting it in half, other

than the foot half unravelling, but it kind of defeats the purpose of a long

cigar.

IMHO, i think that it does make a difference in the whole experience.

With longer smokes, i find that the flavour does change as you relax and take the time to enjoy it. Also the subtle nuisances might not be found if it is cut in half.

Just my 2 cents.

Blasphemy! ;-)

My favorite sizes are the DC and Churchie so the "A" size of the Sancho Sancho is no problem for me.

Just find the time to sit and enjoy it.

All or none bro. You could do what a hunting guide in Ill. did one year. I gave him a Cohiba Sig VI and told him to enjoy. When I returned the next year he told me he was glad to see me as he had just finished the cigar I gave him. He said he would light it then put it out and replace in the refrigerator till he wanted to smoke some more. He made that cigar last a full eleven months.

I've heard of people cutting strong cigars, like OpusX when they've smoked half of the stick. If you're sure you can't smoke it in one stretch, you could smoke what you could enjoy and then cut. To cut it in half before smoking will likely cause the foot end to unravel near the cut. Cut far enough up from the ash end to get rid of the charred filler.

I wouldn't put it in your humidor, as even a judiciously cut cigar will impart foul odors to your other cigars. I would simply put the remaining end into a ziploc bag and smoke it a day or two later. As stated above, the cigar was rolled to be smoked in one sitting, but better deviate from that intension than not smoke at all. Unless you could trade for one or two vitolas more to your liking.

I guess I take a bit different path here.. given the choice of never smoking the cigar or cutting it in half... I cut. Just be sure to smoke the front half first as it will unravel on you.

I also find that my palate is not geared to a 3 hour cigar 95% of the time and as such I do cut cigars at times with IMO no ill effects. A bit different smoke but close enough.

thanks for feedback guys

looks like it's not a good idea to chop it.

I'm not sure what to do, i dont want to "work up the tolerance" to smoke this thing.

i don't know how much i can smoke, b/c this apparently is a stronger cigar.

i'll think it out, if i chop it, you guys won't know about it! :-D

j/k

thanks!

i'm definitely in the 'wait until you have time' camp. should be 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. think you regret it if you don't. more age until you do find the time won't hurt either. all that said, i've smoked a few of these SP sanchos and they are milder than you might think, though 'things' build over the time. i must say i have been a bit disappointed with them and with SP's in general.

I'm with you Reid. I have done this before with Monte A's and Sancho Panza Sancho's. Just ensure you smoke the first half first.

Sacrilege? probably. But I smoke a cigar to enjoy it. Bugger all enjoyment in never smoking it at all ;-)

Would someone cut a Rembrandt because they didn't have time to view the entire painting?

I think not.

The SP Sancho is designed to create an experience from the entire length of the cigar. They are nicely constructed and deliver above expectation. To cut it in half is sacrilege. Why would you have purchased such a cigar if you did not want to smoke it? If you decide not to smoke it, or are even tempted to cut it in half, please contact me, and I'll gladly trade you out for something more your size.

Sweet! we've got 2 on the snip-it side! I appreciate the comments gentlemen. Seems like its a bad idea to cut it. It won't fit in my humidor so it'll have to "age" in a ziploc bag with a waterpillow, which is why I want to smoke it.

Tampa: it was included at a big smoke event, so its not something I would go out and buy, but I wouldn't refuse it there either.

DON'T CHOP IT........................

I had a couple of the very same "aged" sticks, and being a bit of a tight arse I chopped one in half and smoked them over a couple of nights. It was dissapointing as I had the chance to smoke the other intact, it was a great experience as the smoke develops over it's entire length.

The other factor is the outer wrapper. It takes a lot of sorting to get a leaf of that size and quality it's almost sacrilage to cut it in half, the maker would have a fit.

Take the time and enjoy......................

Check yourself out in the mirror it'll look like your swallowing a pool cue !
